Craig Edwards @EdwardsTips_ previews the Austrian Open for

Diamond Country Club, Diamond CourseAtzenbrugg, Austria - Par 72, 7458 Yards

The European Tour resumes after a couple of weeks off in Austria at a quirky, challenging course.

Last season, the European tour resumed post-Covid-19 here and we saw an interesting event where Marc Warren used his vast experience to win when having to play without a caddy due to a Covid-19 test failure. Rare indeed for a top professional to win without a caddy, but we were living in strange times.

The course challenges the player’s nerve with risk-reward holes of island greens on the run-in. It is set in flat parkland with watery hazards littered throughout with double and triple bogeys lurking to ruin many a player's tournaments.

Richard McEvoy, Always Underrated But Profitable

Richard McEvoy will always hold a special place in my punting memory banks, having been the first 151.00+ winner of my tipping service back in 2018 at the Porsche European Open in Germany.

McEvoy has been manfully plying his trade across European and Challenge Tour events for two decades, winning four tournaments in the process, but that was by far the biggest win of them all, beating Bryson Dechambeau down the stretch.

That completed back to back wins in 2018 having won the week previous on the Challenge Tour, but since his form has tailed off badly. There were encouraging signs at the end of 2020 that better results were close and that promise was seen to better effect at the Qatar Masters of 2021 when he was 5th. He followed up with a strong opening week of the two week Kenya swing of the European Tour.

Throughout his career, Richard McEvoy has often achieved his best results at quirky tracks where length is not an issue so it should come as no surprise to see he had back to back top 5 finishes here at Atzenbrugg in 2016 and 2017. I think the forty-one-year-old from Southend could go well this week at an under the radar price of 126.00 with Betfred.

Austrian Open Golf Tip: Richard McEvoy – each-way at 126.00 Betfred

A Perfect Opportunity for Lee Slattery to Get Back in the Limelight

Lee Slattery is a year older than Richard McEvoy and a similar journeyman English professional with two titles on European and Challenge Tour which peculiarly mirrors McEvoy.

I don't use the word journeyman in a derogatory sense, rather in endearment and recognition for their years of hard work staying on the tour while earning a living. Slattery, from Southport on the West coast of England, has won the Madrid Masters and Russian Open on the European Tour but has been badly out of form since the 2019 Scottish Open, which was his last top 10 finish.

His form in Kenya when the European Tour used the same venue for back to back weeks caught my eye. Although he finished 76th in the opening week, it was eight birdies in round 4 that surprised me.

The second week at the Karen Country Club saw improvement as he managed his first top 20 finish since that Scottish Open 9th in the middle of 2019. He made twenty-two birdies and an eagle in those seventy-two holes of the Savannah Kenya Classic.

Like McEvoy, he has back to back top 10s at this Austrian track in 2013 and 2014 with another top 20 finish in the bank as well. I’m expecting a strong showing this week from Lee Slattery and like McEvoy, he represents each way and top 20 value.

Austrian Open Golf Tip: Lee Slattery - each way – 251.00 Ladbrokes (visit our Ladbrokes Review)

Austrian Open Golf Tip: Lee Slattery – Top 20 – 10.00 Boylesports
