The best event in the second half of the CSGO calendar explodes this weekend in Berlin!

I am beginning this tournament with the boldest of statements - either Liquid or Astralis will win this Major! The gradual poor results from the Danes at Blast Pro Series events coincided with improved cohesion from the NA super-team. The one legitimate high stakes encounter that these two have had this year was a Liquid 2-1 victory at Cologne. A factor which became very clear was Astralis didn't know how to play counter-terrorist side of Vertigo. Spunj said it best; why are teams picking Vertigo when they don't know what to expect from the map. This is most applicable to million dollar tournaments. The amount of organisations these two have dropped maps to on LAN in the last few months is incredibly short and features only teams that will be attending the Berlin Major. The only teams not on this list, which I consider a threat to Liquid and Astralis on a bad day, are Faze and Mousesports.

Liquid in 25 matches:

-Ence

-North

-Hellraisers

-Astralis

-G2

-Navi

-Vitality

Astralis in 11 matches:

-Furia

-NRG

-Liquid

-Vitality

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "

We are glad to present you the draw for the first round of The New Challengers Stage of StarLadder Major Berlin 2019 and the full schedule of matches, which will kick off on August 23.

More details about the format: https://t.co/N11IWZF2Ff#BerlinMajor2019 #StarLadderCSGO #CSGO pic.twitter.com/66rWNQXwJe
— StarLadder CS:GO (@StarLadderCSGO) August 17, 2019
"}[/]

The event beginning this week is not the main event, but the Challenger Stage featuring five teams from the Katowice Legends stage that were, in a sense, relegated back to the Challengers in Berlin. The format will largely follow the last Major; a Swiss stage in which the 8 teams that get three match wins will proceed to the Legends Stage. There are a handful of teams that should be rated as a cut above the rest....when playing to their potential; Vitality, NRG, G2, North and Mousesports. Arguments of course can be made for all of these being susceptible, which is why I said 'potential.' The other four teams to seriously contest here and have taken matches off the prior list; Forze, Furia, Avangar, and Crazy. All of these teams have been trending upward over the past six months, with the exception of Avangar - who have been treading water. So here are the scraps:

-Complexity; showed moments of brilliance, and even more disappointment this year, including their debut with child-looking prodigy Obo

-Grayhound; had opportunities on the international stage over the past year but done very little with it. Only here because the gatekeepers to the region, Renegades, finally made playoffs

-Hellraisers; by all accounts a 'dead' roster. Could potentially steal a spot, but it would be the slyest of steals

-Intz; until the Minor had not made an impact internationally. Some talented pieces, but not a team I would give serious consideration for a spot

-Tyloo; the Renegades gate-keeping brothers. They once again looked alright against their region, but this field seems too deep for them to get by on some good aim and mediocre comms. Not willing to write them off entirely, but it will be difficult where to price them at this point

-Dreameaters/Syman; if you watched one or more of the maps between these two you'll understand why I have put them together. Might be marginal value on either to take maps against other teams in this group, but the 'trust' factor is limited

Props:

To Reach Legends Stage

-Forze = Yes @ 2.55 [Betway]

Match Markets

-G2 (-3.5) @ 1.82 [Pinnacle]

-Intz (+5.5) @ 2.01 [Pinnacle]

-Furia (-3.5) @ 1.84 [Pinnacle]

-Crazy (-4.5) @ 2.00 [Betway]

-Syman (+8.5) @ 1.81 [Pinnacle]

-NRG (-6.5) @ 1.88 [Pinnacle]

The Swiss system only allows us to guess what the following match-ups are depending on the way the initial ones play out.
