The first big LAN since the Berlin Major three weeks ago, but we are still seeing more roster changes!

Introduction:

Almost as quickly as you can place your bets, the CSGO circuit moves from New York to Malmo for another quality international tournament. More impressively, six of the eight teams that attended the ESL tournament over the weekend will be competing in Sweden; Liquid, Astralis, Ence, G2, Optic, and tournament victors, Evil Geniuses. However, Malmo features a 16-team field, so the competition is certainly stiffer. Furia, Fnatic, Vitality, Navi, North, Mousesports, Grayhound and Nip make up the other top 30 teams in the world attending.

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "

Tomorrow begins the first day of CORSAIR DreamHack Masters Malmö 2019!

Ready for an epic battle to see who is crowned our next Champion?! 🏆#DHMasters pic.twitter.com/2lGFW8F3De
— DreamHack Counter-Strike (@DreamHackCSGO) September 30, 2019
"}[/]

Evil Geniuses' New York win with the two top teams competing there was their way of kicking down the door to present themselves as a legitimate contender. Prior to this win, the core of Brehze, Ethan and Cerq had only won the CS_Summit and IEM Shanghai. Both of those tournaments had talent comparable to what was thought to be NRG's (EG at the time) level at the time. Beating the Danes in 5/6 maps, and holding four map points in the sixth, was a dominant statement.

Feel a bit like a broken record at this point as we once again have a tournament with some fresh players in the lineup. This will be Fnatic's first tournament with returning Swedish players, Flusha and Golden coming back from a tour in North America with Cloud9. They put up a decent fight against Major-finalists Avangar online, but other than that don't have much to go on. They will face Ence, a team still working to find a good fit with recent addition Sunny, in the opener.

Furia have added long time Brazilian sniper, Hen1 to their squad. Hen1 has a reputation for being incredibly inconsistent and it certainly played an impact in his former teams progress on lan. They will open against G2, who looked decent with Kioshima against three varying levels of teams in New York.

Another major move was Shox being picked up by another French team, Vitality. This is one of those it will either work SO well or blow-up in their face. Zywoo has played most of his professional life with just Vitality, however Shox, Apex, RPK and Alex have seen almost every combination of French roster you can think of. You have to think they know what they're getting involved in bringing Shox to the team. With Alex being the absolute IGL for this team, and Shox hopefully keeping a zipped lip, let us see if we can see the Shoxie from 2013-2016 when he was considered a top 10 player in the world.

Natus Vincere recently retired their long-time leader Zeus from playing professional counter-strike. To replace him is awper, Guardian. A fixture of the CIS scene for many years, Guardian moved to Faze Clan approximately 10 months after Simple joined Navi. It will be interesting to see if personalities will once again clash or if Simple will be okay being a secondary awp. Personally, I think Simple being a rifle is a good move. Snipers can have difficulty holding impact on the t-side of many maps – something you never want with your star players, especially if he happens to be the best in the world! I am also curious to see how Boomble4 will do as the new IGL and the youngest, least experienced player on the team. He has probably four of the top five or six players in the CIS region at his disposal so expectations will remain high as ever!

Grayhound will also be sporting their replacement, INS, for Erkast who left the team shortly after the Major. While I don't expect these Aussies to make a deep run or anything, they have been torching their regional scene since he joined on a decent variety of maps. Always interesting to see how that translates to international lan competitions! Unfortunately, they are tasked with opening up against an even hotter team in EG on the first day.

Matches:

-Astralis (-7.5) v Envy @ 2.05 [Pinnacle]

-G2 (ml) v Furia @ 2.19 [Pinnacle]

-Fnatic (ml) v Ence @ 2.10 [Bet365]

-Vitality (-4.5) v Tyloo @ 1.90 [Bet365]

-North/Navi (o26.5) @ 1.91 [Pinnacle]

-Optic (+5.5) v Liquid @ 1.96 [Pinnacle]

-Nip/Mousesports (o26.5) @ 2.05 [Betway]

-Grayhound (+7.5) v Evil Geniuses @ 1.81 [Betway]

The opening round features only best-of-ones, followed by best-of-threes for the remainder of the tournament.
