What are the hot tips and best match bets for the second semi-final on Finals Day in the T20 tournament?

Derbyshire Falcons vs Essex Eagles

Saturday 21 September 2019 at Edgbaston

Derbyshire and Essex were considered unlikely contenders for a Finals Day berth before a ball was bowled in the Vitality Blast this summer

Some might argue that one of the teams is still an unlikely candidate.

That would be us. And the team would be the Essex Eagles. We’re not entirely sure what they’re doing here. They may well feel the same. They were average in the South Group and there has never been a team with a worse record who has qualified for knockouts. But Essex’s luck was only just getting started.

Due to shambolic organisation on behalf of the ECB, an Ashes Test at Old Trafford, Manchester was being played at the same time as the scheduled quarter-final. This was the home of Lancashire, who were superb in winning North Group. As a result they had to play their home last-eight match miles away in Durham in unfamiliar conditions in front of one man and his dog. It was a huge leveller.

We’re hopeful that Essex’s good fortune has been used up. They come against a spirited and organised Derbyshire outfit who should be underestimated at your peril. They knocked out Gloucestershire Gladiators with a terrific performance which was perfectly in keeping with their surge to qualification.

Led in exemplary fashion by former England bowler Dominic Cork, Derbyshire have one of the shrewdest coaches around. Cork squeezes everything from a group of players who are short on endorsement contracts but high on skill and work ethic.

Not that the bookies have paid any attention. Twas ever thus. They are wowed by names like Bopara, ten Doeschate and Delport. Maybe some of them think Mohammad Amir is still available. Unibet go as big as 2.2 (6/5) about Derbyshire making the final.

We’re even tempted by their price to win the whole thing. They’re that impressive. All the layers make them the rags but 5.0 (4/1) from Betfair, Bet Victor, Paddy Power and William Hill looks generous.

Best Bets

Back Derbyshire to beat Essex 2.2 Unibet
