The two top matches in Week 2 of Six Nations sees Scotland, who had a sound win over Italy in Week 1, taking on Ireland & the jubilant English entertaining France, who were narrowly defeated by Wales last week. These matches will go a long way in deciding who lifts the Championship in March.

Match 1: Scotland v Ireland

Scotland 12/5 (3.4) Best Price: BetFair

Draw 28/1 (29.0) Best Price: Betway and BoyleSports

Ireland 4/9 (1.44) Best Price: Bet Victor

Preview & Top Tip

Scotland will relish the visit of Ireland, after their free flowing scoring last week, which saw them score 5 tries. Expect a physical game here and a tense one at that. Ireland, who had started as Six Nations favourites after their Grand Slam win last year, will need a big response after their setback last week and I expect them to bounce back with a win. As mentioned in the season overview Ireland have tended to be slow starters in the Six Nations and this proved so again last week as England defeated them. This now is a crucial match for Ireland if they are to be serious contenders for the Championship this year. I believe that the handicap is a good way to play this match and expect Ireland just to get over the line, so fancy Scotland to cover the handicap spread.

Best Bet: Scotland to win on Handicap + 6 points at Evens (2.0) Betfred

Match 2: Italy v. Wales

Italy 16/1 (17.0) Best Price: Betway

Draw 80/1 (81.0) Best Price: BoyleSports

Wales 1/14 (1.07 Best Price: Ladbrokes and Coral

Preview & Top Tip

The Italians performed admirably in the 2nd Half against Scotland, albeit their 33-20 loss. The way they fought back will give handicap backers a lot of encouragement as they face a Welsh team brimming with confidence after they delivered a superb 2nd half fight back to defeat the French. Trailing for a large amount of the match, the Welsh team fought back brilliantly and have given themselves a big chance of having a strong Six Nations & will be confident of making it two wins out of two. I believe however last weeks intense match will have taken a lot out of the Welsh team so the pick for this match is Italy + 21 points on the match handicap. Another factor in this is home advantage for the Italians where they can keep the game close and for Wales they have tougher games coming up where they need to be at their best.

Best Bet: Italy to win on Handicap +21 points at Evens (2.0) Paddy Power

Match 3: England v. France

England 1/5 (1.2) Best Price: Skybet and Bet Victor

Draw 20/1 (41.0) Best Price: Boyle Sports

France ½ (6.5) Best Price: Betfair,Paddy Power & Betway

Preview & Top Tip

Both teams come in to this match with opposite fortunes after their opening round of Six Nations games last week. England, big outsiders, delivered a huge win in Ireland. A very physical approach proved successful for Eddie Jones’ men, who led early, holding on to the lead throughout the whole game. However for France it was a different story, leading for most of their match, failing to close the game out, with Wales snatching the win late on.

France will be out to put in a strong performance at Twickenham and I expect them to start fast and frustrate England. Should France keep their discipline and not give away penalties, they have a great chance to cover the handicap here.

England can not rest on last week’s win otherwise they could be in for a tough afternoon. With superb Owen Farrell and Jonny May looking to repeat their strong performances last week and dominate, England have to be wary of the French. But home advantage can see England prevail here albeit in a close match.

Best Bet: France to win on Handicap + 13 points at Evens (2.0) at Coral
