Let’s take a look at this past weekend’s UFC results, notable wins & next week’s odds.

Post-Fight Analysis / Recap

The long-awaited return for arguably one of the best heavyweights the UFC has ever seen lasted a whopping 26 seconds. Arguments still continue as to whether Cain blew his knee or Ngannou rocked him, either way... Punters who took the great price on Ngannou @ 2.75 (7/4 available at William Hill) slept well cashing their bets before a fight even managed to break out.

What’s next for ‘the predator’? We all know a title shot is not on the horizon for Ngannou and with a lackluster amount of world-class heavyweights, I’m not confident that Francis will have guy’s lining up to fight him.

Will Daniel Cormier want to seek out revenge on behalf of his close teammate Cain after his next title defence? Highly doubtful, but we can hope & pray for the future of the heavyweight division to provide us with these big draw fights because as of right now, it doesn’t look very promising.

Francis Ngannou def. Cain Velasquez via first-round TKO

(Kron Gracie locks in a rear naked choke vs Alex Cacesres for the early stoppage)

The name ‘Gracie’ will resonate throughout the history books forever. This past weekend saw the debut of Kron Gracie inside the UFC octagon and what a cracking debut it was!

As expected and predicted by many, Kron came out and submitted his opponent Alex Caceres within the first couple of minutes. He left little to the imagination and shown zero amount of nerves considering this was his debut on the biggest stage of them all.

The odds reflected this matchup quite well in my opinion with a closing line @ 1.33 (33/10 was available with Bet365) and was the perfect play for an accumulator.

I’m so excited to see what the future holds for Kron, there are countless matchups that would make a great showing with this level of BJJ talent. Personally, I hope Kron Gracie can maintain his win streak and propel himself right up the rankings and get matched with somebody like Brian Ortega.

Kron Gracie def. Alex Caceres via submission (RNC) (R1, 2:01)

(Vicente Luque throws a high kick vs Bryan Barberena)

This contest was awarded ‘fight of the night’ and for very good reason. These two warriors stood toe to toe for just under 15 minutes exchanging strikes with little room to breathe.

Round 1 Luque was winning and then ended up getting knocked down, Round 2 Bryan was winning and then he ended up getting knocked down. Round 3 was totally up in the air with either fighter having the chance to win on the judge’s scorecard and then out of nowhere with 6 seconds left in the final round Vincente unleashed a flurry of strikes which finally put out his opponent. Punters who took the hefty price for Luque @ 1.29 (29/100 William Hill) sweated the majority of this fight (including myself) because it wasn’t a walk in the park like the odds may have suggested. Luckily Luque got the finish before the bell because I’m not so sure the judges’ scorecards would have been so kind.

Vicente Luque defeated Bryan Barberena via TKO (R3 4:54)

Other Main Card Results:

Paul Felder def. James Vick via unanimous decision

Cynthia Calvillo def. Cortney Casey via unanimous decision

Andre Fili def. Myles Jury via unanimous decision (29-28 x3)

Preliminary Results

Aljamain Sterling def. Jimmie Rivera via unanimous decision (30-27 x3)

Manny Bermudez def. Benito Lopez via submission (D’arce choke) (R1, 3:09)

Andrea Lee def. Ashlee Evans-Smith via unanimous decision (30-27 x3)

Nik Lentz def. Scott Holtzman via unanimous decision (29-28 x3)

Luke Sanders def. Renan Barao via second-round TKO (1:01)

Emily Whitmire def. Aleksandra Albu via submission (RNC) (R1, 1:01)

**All opening and closing odds for this event are available HERE.

A Quick Look into Next Week’s Odds That Stand Out

Jan Blachowicz (2.10 – 11/10 @ Bet365) vs Thiago Santos (1.73 – 73/100 @ Bet365)

With his recent dominance and rise in popularity, I expect Thiago Santos odds to drop slightly before the weekend. Devastating KO artist Santos will look to continue his winning streak against the fierce Polish native Jan Blachowicz.

John Dodson (3.00 – 2/1 @ Bet365) vs Petr Yan (1.40 – 2/5 @ Bet365)

Up and coming prospect Petr Yan goes up against some serious competition in John Dodson. The line is suggesting Petr Yan will dominate this fight which he may well do, but considering this is a big step up in competition for him, can he handle the pressure? I respect Yan and his talent, but I also respect Dodson and with a price of 3.00 he might be worth a punt this weekend.

Damir Hadzovic (2.20 – 6/5 @ Bet365) vs Marco Polo Reyes (1.70 – 7/10 @ Bet365)

Another fight which I believe is more of a ‘pick em’ than the opening lines suggest. Both fighters have what it takes to become victorious in this Lightweight bout, so a closer look at Hadzovic and his above evens price might be worth your time.
