Who will come out on top in the season finale at the Abu Dhabi GP?

Formula1 Abu Dhabi GP

Sunday, December 1st, Track: Yas Marina Circuit

The final race of the season is finally, upon us. If it’s even half as exciting as the last round, we are in for an exciting race on Sunday. Last time in Brazil we seen the two Ferrari drivers collide with one another, eventually both had to pull out of the race, Pierre Gasly managed to take advantage of a messy race and claim a place on the podium, at a staggering price of 250/1. We were half a lap away from cashing Alex Albon for a podium place at 6/1, until Lewis Hamilton decided not to line our pockets with green and hit Albon off the track (ultimately Hamilton got a penalty for this, but it was too little to late at that stage as Albon ended up finishing down in 14th).

The biggest championship battle remaining is to see who will secure the 3rd spot in the final leader board. Max Verstappen holds a big advantage, leading Charles Leclerc (who sits in 4th place right now) by eleven points. Leclerc’s bets chance is to win the race and hope Verstappen does not finish 2nd or 3rd. If Verstappen hold’s on to 3rd it will be his best championship finish to date.

We currently sit at +60.78 units for the season, about 20 more than I had hoped to achieve. For this reason, I am risking 10 units this weekend to try and make some extra profit from the final race of the season. If every bet is a loss, at least we still exceeded our target. we made a nice chunk of profit this season and I hope to achieve the same results next year.

Key Stats & Facts

The track at Yas Marina was designed by world famous German track designer, Hermann Tilke in 2008, and first raced on in 2009.

Since 2014 Formula1 has had its season finale at the Yas Marina circuit.

Mercedes have won the previous five races in Abu Dhabi, with Hamilton claiming victory on three of the occasions.

There has been on average of 3.1 DNFs in the previous five races in the Abu Dhabi grand prix.

This was the first ever day to night race in F1 history back in 2009.

Betting Odds

Lewis Hamilton 7/4

Charles Leclerc 11/4

Max Verstappen 4/1

Valtteri Bottas 6/1

Sebastian Vettel 11/2

Alex Albon 50/1

Carlos Sainz 750/1

Rest of Field 1000/1+

Verdict

I think Vettel and Bottas both have a lot to prove in Abu Dhabi the weekend. Bottas will want to show Hamilton that he is going to be a threat to him next season and not just his number two. For this reason, I think Bottas is exceptional value at odds of 6/1 to win on Sunday. Bottas knows how to win here at the Yas Marina circuit, he did so in 2017.

As for Vettel he needs to prove to Ferrari he is still their number 1 driver, even though they might already have one eye on his teammate Leclerc as Ferrari’s number 1 and see him as having the best chance of winning the world championship next season. I don’t like Vettel’s chances of winning so much but a top three finish at 1/1 is a good way to play it as I think he has a super chance of finishing in the top three, once he and Leclerc don’t into each other like they did so in the previous race.

My favourite two bets for this weekend is the race winner to come from pole position. This bet has cashed 80% of the time in the previous five races at the Yas Marina circuit. The second is for the race winning margin to be under 4 seconds, this bet has also cashed 80% of the time in the last five.

I will leave you guys with a final bet that I think has a good chance of winning. Both Renault drivers to be classified NO. Since Renault came back into F1 in 2016 this bet has cashed every year since, with a 100% hit rate. Throughout the current season this bet has a 30% win rate. Goodluck to anybody tailing and I hope to be back next season.

Recommended Bets

Winning Margin under 4 seconds 1.91 (10/11) 2 unit with Paddy Power

Safety Car Yes 1.91 (10/11) 1 unit with Ladbrokes

Winning team Mercedes 2.00 (1/1) 2 unit with William Hill

Race winner pole position 1.80 (4/5) 1 unit with Bet365

Valtteri Bottas 7.00 (6/1) 1 unit e/w with Bet365

Renault both cars to be classified NO 3.00 (2/1) 1 unit with Bet365

Sebastian Vettel top 3 finish 2.00 (1/1) 1 unit with Ladbrokes
