What are the hot tips and best bets for the contest in the T20 tournament?

Guyana Amazon Warriors vs St Kitts and Nevis Patriots

Sunday 8 September 2019, Providence

Guyana Amazon Warriors’ first match of the Caribbean Premier League was a trend buster. After posting 157 batting first against the St Lucia Stars, they won. This trumped a bat-second toss bias of approaching 67 per cent for matches at their home ground in Providence.

It is likely that a few punters would have got stung by that upset, particularly as the home team had been cut from 1.7 to 1.5 off the back of the toss. Now, that sort of price movement would have been expected had they been chasing with the bias in their favour. Stars, not that appetising a prospect usually, suddenly smacked value.

But down the bet went. It would have been particularly frustrating that the Stars were in command at 82 for three. They then lost five wickets for 37 and the game was up. So what do we do?

We hold firm. We remain enthrall to that toss bias. And we mark down Stars as a team – and you may already have had this in your notebook – as one to be wary of. The Stars are likely to be dangerous up front with bat or ball but in the middle overs, where the real hard work is done, they probably lack smarts or bottle.

In the engine room with the bat they are woefully inadequate. Najibullah Zadran is a slogger from Afghanistan, Thisara Perera slightly more nuanced and Darren Sammy, who couldn’t buy a run last year, is too high at No 7. Kesrick Williams is also no No 8.

Consider that result a bit of an outlier. We would still expect the chaser to chase in Providence. St Kitts, then, have a shout in this one at chunky odds-against (providing the flip goes their way). Unibet go 2.3 (13/10).

For a bigger price, look no further than Rayad Emrit at 4.33 (10/3) to take most wickets for the Patriots. Sheldon Cottrell is the right favorite but Emrit is only a percentage point behind on hit rate so we have a whopping edge.

Best Bet

Back Rayad Emrit top Patriots bowler 4.33 Betfair
