Ex snooker professional Craig Edwards @EdwardsTips_ previews two opening round matches in the Players Championship and provides us with two tips on each.

Date: March 4-10

Venue: Preston Guild Hall, Lancashire

Television: ITV4

The Coral Cup is a series of three events starting with the World Grand Prix for the top 32, then this week's Players Championship for the top 16 and finally the Coral Tour Championship for the top 8. Each event takes the players from the one year ranking list the week prior to the event.

Kyren Wilson v Jack Lisowski, March 5th 19:00

Betting Odds

Kyren Wilson – 13/20 (1.65) Betway

Jack Lisowski – 11/8 (2.38) Coral

Head to Head - 2-6

An interesting match in prospect between two up and coming young professionals. This season Kyren Wilson won both the Paul Hunter Classic and the German Masters. He was an impressive runner up to Ronnie O'Sullivan in the Champion of Champions.

Jack Lisowski has been consistent reaching the later stages of events all year with a final at the Riga Masters and the semi final of the International Championship the highlights.

Three times this season they have opposed each other and every match went to the deciding frame with Jack Lisowski winning twice.

Kyren Wilson is the highest ranked and a multiple ranking title winner but it is Cheltenham’s Jack Lisowski that holds a dominant head to head.

The last few events have not been kind to either player although Kyren Wilson will require time to adjust to a new ferrule on his cue since his triumph in the German Master's. Both players will be looking at this match as a chance to get their season back on track with the World Championships at Sheffield in April around the corner.

Verdict

One very interesting angle our data at www.edwards-tips.co.uk tells us for this match is both players have been prolific 50+ break builders all season. We believe the match should go over 6.5 50+ breaks with nine frames played making the Paddy Power price 8/11 (1.73) a standout bet.

We are going to advise a second bet on this match and that is for Jack Lisowski to be the highest break scorer at 11/10 (2.10) with Bet365. In their eight matches Jack Lisowski leads this particular market 5-3.

Recommended Bets

Over 6.5 50+ breaks @ 8/11 (1.73) Paddy Power

Jack Lisowski to be highest break scorer @ 11/10 (2.10) Bet365

Stuart Bingham v David Gilbert, March 6th, 13:00

Betting Odds

Stuart Bingham – 4/7 (1.57) Bet365

David Gilbert – 8/5 (2.60) Coral

Head to Head - 10-0

The 2015 world champion Stuart Bingham has been erratic this season losing seven first round matches, however once he gets into events his break building has been brilliant making forty centuries, ten of which he made at last month’s Welsh Open where he was the runner up. Earlier in the season he won the English Open and made the semi-final at the UK Championship.

David Gilbert looks like becoming an elite top 16 player at the end of the season having reached two finals at the Yushan World Open and the German Masters. He made the semi-final at the first of the Coral series the World Grand Prix and is close to the provisional top 8 on the one-year ranking list.

Verdict

A surprisingly one-sided head to head between these two as Stuart Bingham has won all ten of their previous encounters only two of which required a decider. I do not believe that record will change on this occasion with the knowledge that in their last couple of events “Ball Run Bingham” has played the better. He has more experience of one table set ups at invitation events and I expect him to put all them factors to good use.

The other angle of attack for this match is Stuart Bingham to make a century, in fourteen matches over eleven frames or more this season ten times he made a century.

Recommended Bets

Stuart Bingham over 0.5 centuries @8/11 (1.73) Bet365

Stuart Bingham to beat David Gilbert -1.5 frame handicap @10/11 (1.91) Bet365
