With the series beautifully poised at 2-2 after an unlikely comeback from the tourists, we’re in for a cracker of a finale in Delhi.

India v Australia Fifth ODI Betting

Wednesday, March 13, Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium

History boys?

India haven’t lost a home one-day international series since 2015 against South Africa. That’s six straight wins. The previous defeat was seven years ago. That’s two series defeats in 20. But guess who the team was who trumped them before Pakistan? That’s right - Australia. That was 2009. The Aussies have a history chance here.

Not that anyone expects them to take it. After letting slip a 2-0 lead, India are still no better than 8/15 (1.53) with Ladbrokes, Coral, William Hill, Paddy Power, Betfred. Australia are 13/8 (2.63) with Bet365.

Australia chased down a record score to level the series in Mohali. And after they put the frighteners on the India batting in a chase in the game before, they will reckon they have the edge.

Khawaja the man

Bet365 have priced up a runs match bet between the Australia openers, Usman Khawaja and Aaron Finch. They can’t separate the pair at 5/6 each. We can. We think Khawaja has the nod here.

There are two reasons for this. For a start, Khawaja is in the form of his life. Finch, although excellent in game three with a confidence-boosting half-ton, has endured a torrid time. Khawaja has 283 runs in the series, putting him second to Virat Kohli in the overall runs lists by just seven. Finch has 130.

Of course, those numbers aren’t everything in what will be a one-off. What actually counts (reason No 2 coming up) is the state of the pitch. Delhi’s Feroz Shah Kotla is a tricky wicket which rewards patience and subtle hands. This is Khawaja all over.

What the wicket rarely rewards is pure muscle. Batters who like the ball coming to the bat, fast and true, and swinging for home. This is Finch all over.

Kohli head and shoulders

Virat Kohli is second to MS Dhoni on the runs lists in the last ten years at the Kotla. Of course, Kohli has form wherever he goes but we have said throughout the series that he has been reaching new levels in this contest and no-one can match him.

The pitch should mean that Kohli finds runscoring easier than most. On tricky surfaces, quality almost always rises to the top. Kohli has a multi-dimensional game. He can hit a long ball or he can nudge and nurdle. Perhaps only Dhoni is as flexible. And the former India captain is not playing. Kohli at 9/2 (5.5) for man of the match is strong.

India v Australia Fifth ODI Betting Tips:

Usman Khawaja to beat Aaron Finch in runs match bet 5/6 (1.83) Bet365

Virat Kohli Man of Match 9/2 (5.5) Betfair

Click to read our Complete IPL 2019 Betting Guide
