Mumbai Indians v Chennai Super Kings, Wankhede Stadium

Wednesday 3 April, 15.30

This a blockbuster at the Wankhede with the two most successful, popular and powerful IPL franchises going head-to-head. They have three titles each and it wouldn’t be a huge surprise if the trophy ended up again in the hands of one of the respective captains, Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni.

That may sound like a surprising statement considering the Indians’ form has been poor. But twas ever thus. They are renowned sluggish starters and few punters who took IPL title prices will be panicking after losses to Delhi Capitals and Kings XI Punjab.

It is perhaps a little concerning that their one victory has come against Royal Challengers Bangalore – and it was a little close for comfort considering how other teams have barely got out of second gear against them - but there is room for improvement.

For a start, they need to start picking their best XI and that means Yuvraj Singh has got to go. Ishan Kishan is a much better bet at No 4. Yuvraj has the worst dot ball percentage in the middle overs in the tournament. It means they are getting slowed down at the worst possible time. It hasn’t helped that Kieron Pollard, who comes in after him, has also struggled to put his foot down.

Their bowling unit has been boosted by the arrival of Jason Behrendorff. He has been involved in Australia’s ODI tour against Pakistan in the UAE and although it might take time to get up to speed Mumbai will be better in the long run.

Chennai have been so good that they have used their full quota of overseas players only once. They will probably use only three here – Shane Watson, Dwayne Bravo and Imran Tahir – and to say that punters are licking their lips at the prospect of betting them at decent odds is an understatement.

Although Mumbai have a 13-11 lead on the head-to-heads down the years, the opportunity to bet CSK at 10/11 (1.91) with Ladbrokes looks too big to pass up. The layers are struggling to split the pair here and on 2019 and 2018 form that can’t be right. Mumbai are even money (2.0) with Bet365.

Best tips for the match

CSK to win 10/11 Ladbrokes
