Kaspersky Riga Masters

June 10th - 13th

Ponds Forge, Sheffield

Ali Carter v Xu Si

Head to Head 1-0

Monday 10th June, 16:00

An awkward opening match of the new season for Ali Carter against Q school 1 graduate Xu Si. Ali Carter finished last season in good style making the Quarter finals of the World Snooker Championship losing a close encounter to Gary Wilson. On the whole last season was a success for “The Captain” who is back up to the World number 17 for the start of the new campaign with the highlight being a final appearance in the World Grand Prix.

Xu Si had to go back to the Qualifying School in the off season but happily secured his two year playing privileges at the first time of asking much to the delight of my reader's who were on at 6/1. Although he struggled in the early stages of last season he finished stronger and looked to be one of the better player’s returning to tour school. He made the semi final of the Indian Open in 2017 losing to John Higgins so we know he has potential to win matches on the main tour.

A bet I like the price in best of 7 frames is for Xu Si to be sharp form Q school and hit the ground running in the new season. There is the added factor that Ali Carter although the consummate professional may be slow out of the blocks with a few weeks off since his world championship quarter final.

Recommended Bet

Xu Si to beat Ali Carter @ 11/4 (3.75) Bet365

Chen Zifan v Michael Georgeiu

Head to Head 0-0

Monday 10th June, 10:00

Cypriot Michael Georgeiu starts his new campaign on the back of his Crucible Theatre debut at the final stages of the World Snooker Championship. He came up against an in form Neil Robertson in the last 32 and lost 1-10.

China's Chen Zifan had to return to Qualifying School like Xu Si and he made it through at the second attempt. During the previous two seasons he has struggled to make an impact on the professional circuit but does have two victories against Barry Hawkins to his name plus match wins against Shaun Murphy and Zhou Yuelong.

All those four match wins against established performers by Chen Zifan have been in best of 7 frame matches so we can have a small bet at a generous looking price given we know he will be sharp from Q school.

Recommended Bet

Chen Zifan to beat Michael Georgeiu @ 2/1 (3.00) Bet365

Michael White v Adam Stefanow

Head to Head 0-0

Tuesday 13th, 13:00

Welshman Michael White had a nightmare season last year and badly needs improvement this time around or he will find himself back at Qualifying School. That will be a quick fall from grace if it happens, as the twenty-seven year old had won the Indian Open and Paul Hunter Classic in recent years. A high class proven player he has his career on the line in the coming months and I am expecting him to turn things around.

Poland’s only professional Adam Stefanow found it very tough going on the professional circuit last season winning only two matches though one was against former world champion Shaun Murphy. That first season should serve as good experience and still only twenty-five years old there is plenty of days ahead to improve.

This looks an easy contest to kick start Michael White’s new season and I expect him to be sharp enough to cover the handicap line.

Recommended Bet

Michael White -1.5 frames @ 4/5 (1.80)
