Marc Marquez continues to dominate but I feel a change in the wind and an opportunity has presented itself in Australia

Moto GP Australia

Sunday, October 27th, Track: Phillip Island Circuit

Preview

We managed to pick up 2nd 3rd and 4th with our picks last weekend, unfortunately Marc Marquez spoiled the party and won the race again. He has now won the last four races in a row and is sowing no signs of letting up. Luckily for us we are arriving at a track that’s not best suited to the Honda and Marquez and his record here isn’t as dominant as most other tracks, two victories in six races, and he was very lucky to win one of those.

As we discussed last time, Marquez is on course now to beat his highest ever championship points tally and with three races remaining he needs just 12 points to equal it. This will surely be his most dominant season in Moto GP to date. So far all I have talked about is Marquez and that’s because that’s all there is to talk about these days in Moto GP. The rest of the competition has fallen by the wayside (except for Fabio Quartararo, but he needs a better bike and some more experience).

We still have an outright bet on Andrea Dovizioso each way in the world championship at 7.50 (13/2), which we placed after the 5th race of the season. Obviously, he won’t win the title now, but he seems to have second place wrapped up. If you got this bet at the recommended units and each way terms of ¼ with your bookie you should make around +1.10 units with this bet.

Key Stats & Facts

· Phillip island has been the home of the Australian GP since 1997. Valentino Rossi holds the record for the most wins on this track, 8 in total.

· There has been an average of 4.1 DNFs in the previous 5 races.

· The circuit is situated on Phillips Island, which is an island situated just off the coast of Melbourne. The island is stepped in motorcycle racing

Betting Odds

Marc Marquez 21/20

Fabio Quartararo 4/1

Maverick Vinales 6/1

Andrea Dovizioso 7/1

Alex Rins 15/1

Valentino Rossi 15/1

Jack Miller 20/1

Franco Morbidelli 22/1

Danilo Petrucci 28/1

Cal Crutchlow 28/1

Rest of Field 100/1+

Verdict

I said it three articles back and I am sticking to my guns, Quartararo is going to win a race before the season is over. I have bet on him in the last three races, his results have been (crash, 2nd, 2nd). He is due a win in his rookie season and this is 100% the track for it to finally happen. Phillip island has catered to favouring many different bikes over the years but currently I think it favours the Yamaha’s and most likely the Suzuki bikes also. The Honda is not suited to this track like the other two manufacturers but when Marquez is your pilot, you’re always going to be in contention to win the race.

I think the Suzuki and Alex Rins has a chance to potentially sneak a victory here from under the nose of Marquez and all the Yamaha riders who reckon they will have a chance to win on Sunday. I must be on Rins at 15/1 on a track that he will surly go well on. Suzuki finished 2nd and 6th at this track last season and I expect at least a 3rd place finish from Rins on Sunday, great value at 15/1 for each way bet.

The toughest decision regarding my picks this weekend is which rider do I put the most units on? Maverick Vinales or Quartararo. Looking at the prices I think it’s wise to put 2 units on Quartararo to win at 4/1 and 1 unit on Vinales to win at 6/1. That way we will capitalize on either winning the race plus still be up some small profit including each way on Rins.

Recommended Bets

Alex Rins 16.00 (15/1) 1u each way with Unibet

Fabio Quartararo 5.00 (4/1) 2u win with Betfair

Maverick Vinales 7.00 (6/1) 1u win with William Hill
