Right in the very heart of Italy sits the Mugello track. Valentino Rossi fans go crazy, Ducati fans go crazy and Honda are always very intimidated, will this play into the Italian riders hands or will Marc Marquez find a way to win when he is totally up against it.

Preview

The last race in Le Mans (France) Marquez took his 3rd victory of the season, out of a possible five races. We did predict the Ducati’s would be fast and we were proved correct as 2nd, 3rd and 4th were all Ducati bikes. Even on a track were the Ducati bike is the fastest Marquez still managed to pull off the victory, it just shows how strong and skilful he is on the Honda. A big disappointment in France was the performance of the Suzuki team and riders. Alex Rins was second in the championship and qualified in 19th place, eventually ending the race in 10th. Maverick Vinales crashed out of the race yet again, this is the man who is supposed to take over the reins of team Yamaha from Rossi, yet he is 42 points behind him in the championship and also finished behind Rossi at the end of last season too, he needs to improve a LOT or he will be replaced next year.

This Sunday in Italy Andrea Dovizioso will look towards a much needed race win on home soil. This is Ducati’s home race and they do have the upper hand on this track over the Hondas, their bike was essentially developed around this track. Honda and Marquez have had the upper hand for the past few weeks but this weekend we hope and should see a different winner. Also for just the pure Moto GP fans it would be great to see anybody win but Marquez, his ability is amazing and as a fan of the sport it’s hard not to appreciate and respect him but as a spectacle its creating a very bad image for the sport. So many amazing riders and manufactures but yet the same guy always wins.

Mugello has been the official home of the Italian GP since 1994. It’s always an exciting race and the Italian fans are the craziest Moto GP fans in the world. Marquez has only won here once and it was by such a tight margin, winning by 0.121 ahead of Jorge Lorenzo.

Key Stats & facts

Rossi holds the record for the most victories in Mugello with 9 victories, he also hasn’t won here in 11 years

In the previous 9 races at Mugello, only an Italian has won once (Andrea Dovizioso in 2017) every other winner has been Spanish.

There has been on average 6 DNFs over the past 5 races at Mugello

Betting Odds

*Marc Marquez – 9/4

*Andrea Dovizioso – 11/4

*Valentino Rossi – 11/2

*Maverick Vinales – 12/1

*Fabio Quartararo – 12/1

*Alex Rins – 16/1

*Danilo Petrucci – 18/1

*Jack Miller – 20/1

*Jorge Lorenzo – 24/1

*Cal Crutchlow – 35/1

*Rest of Field – 60/1+

Verdict

Mugello is the ultimate Ducati track, only one man could beat Ducati here and unfortunately that’s Marquez. This is one of the best prices you will get Marquez at this year, which might tempt people to bet on him, but also there is a reason why he is such a good price. He will find it hard to win, we can’t wright him off, he is the best rider right now after all, but it will be very hard this time around in Italy.

For anybody that does not know Moto GP that well, Ducati has the fastest speed in a straight line, and this circuit has one of the longest straights of the season. The track is 5.245km long whilst the straight is 1.141 km long. This is where Ducati should make up the difference on any rivals who get ahead. Dovizioso has fought very hard this year to try keep up with Marquez; especially on tracks were Ducati are not as fast as Honda. I think he stands a really good chance to take victory this weekend. He has consistent form and now he heads to his and his teams home track were they can and should dominate.

I am very surprised with Danilo Petrucci price at 18/1, he hasn’t had the best of seasons on his new Ducati bike (Dovizioso teammate) but he has been consistent and seems to be improving race by race. He finished the first three races of the year in 6th, then the next in 5th and last time in 3rd. This seems like a bargain price if the race pans out the way I am expecting it to.

The third Ducati man I’ll bet on is Jack Miller, he has impressed this season and besides the two races he crashed out he has finished 4th, 3rd, and 4th. Once he stays up on the bike I like him to get a podium. Since bookies don’t offer this bet its best just to bet him each way.

I’m going all out on the Ducati this weekend in Mugello. I believe they have the best bike for the track and I’ll be surprised to see anybody but a Ducati win.

Recommended Bets

Andrea Dovizioso 11/4 Unibet 1 unit win

Danilo Petrucci 18/1 Betfair 0.5 units each way

Jack Miller 20/1 Betfair 0.5 units each way
