#1 Golden State Warriors vs #8 LA Clippers

The Golden State Warriors finished with the NBA's third best record at 57-25. They averaged 117.7 points per game, 2nd in the league. They were 10th in pace at 100.9 Their Offensive rating was 115.9, best in the league. They had a Defensive rating of 109.5, 13th in the league. They had the league's second highest plus/minus, outscoring opponents by an average of 6.5 PPG. They are attempting to win their third consecutive championship, and are the overwhelming favorites to win the title, priced at 1.48 to win the title at Unibet, which is enormous vig for an outright before the playoffs start.

The LA Clippers finished the season 48-34. Many thought they were giving up on this season when they shipped star guard Tobias Harris to the 76ers, receiving guard Landry Shamet in return. But Shamet integrated quickly and super reserves Lou Wiliams and Montrezl Harrell picked up the slack. Patrick Beverly is a dogged defender and Danilo Gallinari has played well. LA averaged 115.1 PPG which was 5th in the league this year. they were 7th in pace at 101.7. Their offensive rating was 112.4 9th in the league, and their defensive rating was 111.5, 21st in the league. Their plus/minus was +.9 PPG 13th in the league.

The Warriors have always done well against the Clippers, dating back to Lob City with Chris Paul and Blake Griffin. The Warriors won the season series 3-1 with their lone loss being in November in overtime. This is a very tough matchup for the Clippers as the Warriors just do everything better. Beverly is a great defender but he can only match up against one of the Warriors 5 All Star caliber players. The Warriors only concern is Steph Curry rolling his ankle in the last game of the season, but even without a fully healthy Steph, the Warriors roll this series. One worry is that the Warriors are so good, they can give away games due to carelessness, they know how talented they are and they don't always focus. I expect them to focus though and sweep the series.

BETTING TIP: Under 4.5 @1.91 at Unibet

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "

Mark your calendars, #DubNation pic.twitter.com/4IKlQXvhzk
β€” Golden State Warriors (@warriors) April 11, 2019
\n\n"}[/]

#2 Denver Nuggets vs #7 San Antonio Spurs

The Denver Nuggets finished with the West's second best record at 54-28. They averaged 110.7 PPG, 20th in the league. They were 27th in pace at 97.7. Their Offensive rating of 113.0 was 6th in the league, and their Defensive rating was 10th at 108.9. They finished with a plus/minus of +4.0 PPG, 8th in the league. Last year they barely missed the playoffs, losing out on the last day. After making a run at the #1 seed, they settled in at #2 with a breakout season.

The San Antonio Spurs continued their 22 year run of finishing above .500 finishing with a 48-34 record. They were 18th in scoring at 111.7 PPG. They were 22nd in pace at 98.3. They had an Offensive rating of 112.9, good for 7th in the league, and a Defensive rating of 111.2, 19th in the league. The Spurs are led by hall of fame coach Gregg Popovich, and play a solid, fundamental style of basketball that has stood the test of time.

The season series was tied 2-2, with each team winning their home court games. Many believe that the veteran Spurs will upset the upstart Nuggets, but I'm not one of them. I think the Nuggets have too many ways to score, and they will need them. In the regular season, the Spurs double and triple teamed Nuggets star center Nikola Jokic, forcing his teammates to beat them. This strategy worked well but I expect Nuggets coach Mike Malone, who learned his craft under Popovich, to make the necessary adjustments to take advantage of this. Other players such as Gary Harris, Will Barton and Jamal Murray will have opportunities and I expect Malone to put them in a position to take advantage of them. I expect the Nuggets to be too young and athletic to succumb to the wily Spurs.

BETTING TIP: Denver Nuggets to win 4-3 @ 5.75 at Unibet

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "

LET'S πŸ‘ GO πŸ‘!!!!!#MileHighBasketball pic.twitter.com/pN0j7lsyvP
β€” Denver Nuggets (@nuggets) April 11, 2019
\n\n"}[/]

#3 Portland Trail Blazers vs #6 Oklahoma City Thunder

The Portland Trail Blazers finished 53-29. They averaged 114.7 PPG, 6th in the league. They were 18th in pace at 99.1. They were 3rd in Offensive rating at 114.7 and their Defensive rating was 110.5, 16th in the league. Their Plus/Minus was +4.2, 7th in the league. Portland is coming off a disappointing playoff performance last year after being bounced in the first round as the 3 seed last year. The pressure is on and losing center Jusuf Nurkic will definitely hurt their chances.

The Oklahoma City Thunder finished 49-33. They averaged 114.5 PPG, 7th in the league. They were 6th in pace at 102.8. They had an Offensive rating of 110.3 17th in the league. They were 4th in the league with a Defensive rating of 107.0. The Thunder played well most of the season but a late season injury to MVP candidate Paul George dropped them to 6th in the West. George has struggled to return to his pre injury form, although he looked good in the season finale hitting the game winning shot to avoid dropping to the 8th seed.

The Thunder won the season series 4-0, and their were rumors abound that the Blazers tanked their last game against the Kings to drop to the 4th seed and avoid OKC. The Blazers claimed that is ridiculous, and their reserves pulled out a comeback victory to set this matchup. This is a tough matchup for the Blazers as George can guard Lillard and McCollum taking the ball out of there star backcourt's hands, forcing their forwards to lead the offense. Without Nurkic, Portland will rely on Enes Kanter at center, who is a solid scorer and rebounder, but struggles mightily on the defensive end. Kanter has struggled to get playing time despite being a good scorer because he is so weak defensively and constantly targeted as a switch defender in the pick and roll. If Portland can't figure out how to help Kanter defensively, the Thunder will attack him relentlessly, giving them a huge advantage. I don't see how Kanter stays on the floor in crunch time, putting Zach Collins in a tough position. If Portland can't figure this out, I don't see how they can win.

BETTING TIP: OKC to win the series @ 1.7 at Unibet

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "

βš‘οΈπŸ†™ for Round 1. They were 26th in pace at 97.9. Their Offensive rating was 115.5, 2nd in the league. Their Defensive rating was 110.7, 17th in the league. Their plus/minus was +4.8, 5th best in the league. Last year they lost in 7 games against the Warriors in the Western Conference Finals.

Utah was 50-32 and averaged 111.7 PPG, 17th in the league. They were 13th in pace at 100.3. Their Offensive rating was 110.9, 15th in the league. Their Defensive rating was 105.7, which was an impressive 2nd best Defensive rating in the league. They were 5th in Plus/Minus at +5.3. Last year the Jazz lost in 5 games to the Rockets in the second round.

Here we have a rematch of last years 2nd round matchup, when the Jazz won Game 2 and seemed to take control of the series, only to lose the next 2 games at home and lose in 5. How do the teams differ from last year? Well, Utah star Donovan Mitchell has another year under his belt, and has matured as a scorer and leader. Houston has lost Trevor Ariza, and Eric Gordon and Chris Paul aren't playing as well as last year. But James Harden has continued to improve, putting up a historically great offensive season and continuing to refine his craft as the top isolation scorer in the game. The Jazz try to make Harden go right, relying on shot blocking center Rudy Gobert, but this can backfire if Gobert ends up in foul trouble. I don't know if the Jazz have the firepower to keep up with the Rockets and Harden, and will need Mitchell to raise his level even further if they want to compete.

BETTING TIP: Houston Rockets -1.5 games @ 1.80 at Unibet

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "

Round 1 Schedule Is Set πŸš€

🎟 https://t.co/PNwBa2HRTp pic.twitter.com/WXFeHSKUXP
β€” Houston Rockets (@HoustonRockets) April 11, 2019
\n\n"}[/]
