Le Golf National, Paris

October 17-20

A long-standing tournament founded in 1906 and a part of the European Tour schedule since 1972 means we have the perfect opportunity to utilise lots of previous course form at this quirky venue. Bad weather is forecast this week in Paris with wind and rain so that should favour links course specialists on this exposed stadium course.

Betting Predictions and Tips

Scotland's Stephen Gallacher has always been a player capable of big performances as winning the Indian Open earlier this season proves. A multiple winner on the European Tour but now in his mid-forties his form has been erratic for a few years now. He does have a lot of experience of Le Golf National and is an expert in poor weather links golf. Last week at the Italian Open was one of his better week's, finishing in 25th and gives him a boost in confidence. With seven Top 40 finishes in Paris he makes appeal in that market this week.

Englishman, James Morrison, is the next player to consider this week. A couple of big efforts in the last decade of tournaments in Paris suggest he copes with the demands of the course. What is interesting is a recent upturn in form for the journeyman professional with a fifteenth at the Open De Espanà and a fourth-place finish in the KLM Open in the Netherlands. This player has produced many of his best performances in national opens winning the Spanish Open 2015 and Madiera Open 2010. Morrison is a solid selection in many markets this week but particularly the top GB & Ire at 23.00 each-way with Bet365.

Unknown French professional Cyril Bounoil has been plying his trade on the China circuit successfully in recent months with an impressive run of five top 5 finishes in his last seven tournaments. Winning the Suzhou Open was the highlight and this is a good time of year for a player transitioning from a minor tour. Last week, Francois Laporta took his superb form from the Challenge Tour into his home Italian Open getting a top 10 finish. This week I am predicting Cyril Bounoil to replicate that feat.

Italian, Lorenzo Gagli made a long-awaited breakthrough on the European Tour at Crans-sur-Sierre in the European Masters when losing a play off. A player who has hovered on the periphery of full status on tour for many years. His form at the Scottish Open has been superb with three top 20 finishes from limited starts showing a liking for links golf. The interesting result in his past that makes him a bet in France this week is a top 20 finish as far back as 2011. He has only played twice here since, both times making the cut and looks an under the radar, each-way bet in this week's Top Continental European with Bet365 at 151.00.

The Dane, Soren Kjeldsen has impressive previous form at Le Golf National with four top 20 finishes in the last decade. This season has been a difficult one but last week in Rome he produced a much-improved display finishing 25th after a final round of 76 saw him plummet out of contention. We have to go back to his first start of 2019 in January for his last top 10 in Abu Dhabi Championship. He has eight top 20 finishes in sixteen seasons and looks a solid selection for that market this week.

Recommended Bets

Stephen Gallacher – Top 40 @ 3.30 (23/10) Paddy Power

James Morrison – Top GB and Ireland - each way @ 23.00 (22/1) Bet365

Cyril Bounoil – Top 10 @ 23.00 (22/1) Unibet

Lorenzo Gagli - Top Continental European - each way @ 151.00 (150/1) Bet365

Soren Kjeldsen – Top 20 @ 4.00 (3/1) Ladbrokes
