In this article Craig Edwards @EdwardsTips_ will cover the side markets of the PGA Championship, discussing the contenders with one bet advised in each.

Top American

Brian Harman has been trending into form for a few weeks now. The “journeyman pro” on the PGA Tour has two wins to his credit and solid major form, in particular a second place in the 2017 US Open. With two high level performances in the bank at Bethpage Black we can expect a strong showing from the thirty-two-year old.

Former PGA Champion Jason Dufner is another player I was hoping to exploit this market with. I was close to tipping him in the outright market however, five places each way at 125/1 (126.00) is hard to resist when we combine his previous course form and latest fourth place in the Wells Fargo Championship.

Lucas Glover was the shock winner of the 2009 US Open at this Bethpage Black Course. He followed by winning the Wells Fargo Championship in 2011 since however, his career has gone into a slump. Last season on the PGA tour from September onwards he has found a new level of consistency with eleven top 20 finishes in fifteen events. With his confidence climbing we can expect a good showing this week.

Recommended Bet

Jason Dufner – each way @ 125/1 (126.00) Boylesports

Top European

Readers of my column will remember I tipped the Dane Lucas Bjerregaard for the Masters in this market each way and he didn’t disappoint. A few weeks earlier at the World Matchplay he beat Tiger Woods to reach the semi-finals making his first sojourn to the PGA tour a successful one. We know the course puts length off the tee as a premium, this will be perfect for the Dane who leads the European Tour driving distance statistics.

Two players who were close to being picked this week for Top European were Lee Westwood, but we chose a First Round Leader market and Ross Fisher whose consistency is better suited to a place market.

Recommended Bet

Lucas Bjerregaard - each way @ 50/1 (51.00) Bet365

Top Rest of the World

Sung Kang has become an impressive performer on the PGA Tour this season with a general climb in all his statistics being reflected in his standard of play. Last week the culmination of all his good work came with a maiden tour victory on the tour at the Byron Nelson Classic. Back in the 2016 Barclays here he had a top 20 finish and with confidence at a career peak we can expect him to play well this week.

Venezuelan Jhonattan Vegas looks to have solid credentials this week and the other player I considered strongly in this market however, we have already tipped him in the Outright preview.

Recommended Bet

Sung Kang – each way @ 30/1 (31.00) Paddy Power

Place

Ryan Moore is a unheralded American professional with solid course form here, never finishing worse than twenty-fourth. A third place at the Texas Open a few weeks ago demonstrates he is ready for the Bethpage Black Course. I don’t expect him at the business end of the tournament however, he represents a solid Top 30 bet.

A player with a similar profile is Jason Kokrak who has eight top 20 finishes in his last eleven PGA tour events. Seventh here in 2016 he looks a strong selection for any place markets.

Irishman and former PGA Champion Padraig Harrington looks a tempting price in the Top 20 market after a solid week in Texas at the Byron Nelson Classic. Slowly recovering from a broken bone in the wrist he is still capable at the highest level.

Recommended Bets

Ryan Moore - Top 30 @ 13/5 (3.60) Paddy Power

Padraig Harrington - Top 20 @ 16/1 (17.00) Unibet.

First Round Leader market

Scott Piercy looks the perfect pick this week with an early tee time and twice placed from previous years in this market. Last week at the Byron Nelson Classic and at the Heritage prior, he displayed his best form of the season.

England’s Lee Westwood is worth a second glance in a market he won once before and like Scott Piercy has an early tee time. Last week at the British Masters he started brightly before fading however, he has played a light schedule this season so we can expect him to be sharper this week. Fifth in the 2012 at Bethpage Black he fits the criteria we look for in First Round Leader market and we can use Bet365 top 20 finish for Round one.

Recommended Bet

Scott Piercy – First Round Leader – each way @ 100/1 (101.00) Paddy Power

Lee Westwood – First Round – Top 20 @ 6/1 (7.00) Bet365
