What are the hot tips and best bets as the tournament gets into full swing in the UAE?

Round Two matches

Saturday 19 October 2019, Dubai and Abu Dhabi

Twenty20 is a volatile format when the top teams are involved. But at this associate level it can go off after a spark in a firework factory. And so it proved when Scotland, second favourites to win the tournament, went down in game one against Singapore. It was a stunning upset, with the Scots seemingly cruising in pursuit of 169 at 111 for two in the 14th over.

There could be another shock on the cards in round two. We have a fancy for Namibia at big odds in their contest against the Netherlands. On most analysts’ ratings systems, Namibia have been underrated and they have the potential to break into the top five. Bet 365 go 3.5 (5/2) about an upset with Coral and Ladbrokes rating the Dutch no better than 1.36 (4/11).

Namibia are a confident bunch and are the powerhouses of African associate cricket. They have won seven on the spin.

Netherlands beat Kenya in their opener and in Ryan Ten Doeschate and Roelof van der Merwe they have names familiar to English domestic fans. Those two are probably the main reason why the men in orange are priced so short.

Before that Kenyan success, however, their form was patchy. They had been bowled out for 94 against Oman and were well beaten by Nepal.

For a top-bat wager, Ben Cooper is Mr Reliable for Netherlands. He should bat at No 3 and if you can get 4.5 (7/2) or better he is a bet. On our ratings system he makes it into the top echelon of Associate batsmen.

Elsewhere, the Scots go again, this time against Kenya. Richie Berrington didn’t manage to cop for us but we will keep faith with him as a top bat bet. He should still be around the 6.0 mark (5/1) with Bet365.

For outright wins we have him as short as 4.0 (3/1) so don’t go below that price, although there is little danger of him being priced in line with his true chance.

Best Bet

Back Richie Berrington top Scotland runscorer 6.0 Bet365
