St Simons Island, Georgia

Sea Island Course and Plantation Course

With the Masters Tournament last week being played in Georgia, the players don’t have to travel far for this established PGA Tour event. The RSM Classic begins Thursday/Friday with the opening two rounds shared between the Sea Island and Plantation Courses while heading into the weekend the post-cut action is on the Sea Island Course. The Sea Island course has a links feel and rewards a strategic approach to the large Bermuda greens.

RSM Classic Betting Picks and Predictions

St Simons Island has become a real course specialist venue over recent years with Kevin Kisner holding a solid bank of form here after winning his maiden PGA Tour title back in 2015. Other notable career records here include Chris Kirk, Russell Henley while unheralded recent PGA Tour winners, Michael Thompson and Brian Gay also have strong form in the book. This year’s event looks to have more strength in depth than a normal year but those players who played last week’s Masters could possibly be feeling the effects this week at the penultimate PGA event of 2020.

Will Gordon to Follow the Recent Trend of PGA Tour Maiden Winners at Sea Island

It was approximately twelve months ago that Will Gordon started to spring to prominence on the PGA Tour with an impressive 10th place finish here. He started 2020 in similar fashion from limited starts then Post Covid-19 hiatus he had a breakthrough 3rd place finish at the Travelers Championship.

Since his form has been a little subdued but the Bermuda Championship indicated an improvement followed by the Houston Open two weeks ago where he finished 38th despite a quadruple bogey in the opening round followed by four double bogeys during the four rounds.

The SouthEastern Conference University Championship is played at Sea Island every year and it was noticeable that Gordon finished 3rd on one of his last amateur starts in 2019. This week should serve an easier test than the Houston Open and Gordon could follow recent first time PGA Tour winners, Tyler Duncan, Austin Cook and Kevin Kisner into the winner's circle.

RSM Classic Betting Pick: Will Gordon – each-way @ 126.00 (125/1) William Hill (visit our William Hill Review)

Austin Cook Has a Chance to Win the RSM Classic for a Second Time This Week

2020 had been something of a lacklustre golfing year before the Shriners Hospital for Children's Open where a runner up finish reminded golf fans and bettors that 2p17 RSM Classic winner, Austin Cook could still be competitive at the highest level. He followed up at the Houston Open with a solid tournament in strong company with many of the sport's leading players needing the event as Masters preparation. Now back at a venue suited to his consistent game we can expect Cook to be contending this week on Sea Island.

RSM Classic Betting Pick: Austin Cook – each way @ 81.00 (80/1) Paddy Power

Charles Howell is Always the Banker Rarely the Bride

2018 champion, Charles Howell is often our banker in golf place betting while rarely winning the tournaments. Howell has had a remarkable career of consistency on the PGA Tour with over $40,000,000 in career prize money despite only winning three tournaments in the last two decades. In that time, he has produced exactly a phenomenal 100 career top 10 finishes on the PGA Tour in 580 starts. And four of those top 10 finishes have been here at Sea Island during the last decade.

Last week at the Masters was Howell's first event for a month and the perfect preparation for possibly his favourite week of the year making him a no brainer selection as this week’s PGA Golf Banker.

PGA Golf Banker: Charles Howell – Top 20 @ 4.33 (10/3) Unibet
