South Africa to cover spread against New Zealand

New Zealand v South Africa

Saturday 21st September 2019

This match between two heavyweights of rugby could well be the match that decides the World Cup in the final in November. The two favourites tackle each other in their opening pool match and all eyes will be on this game to see who has the edge as the tournament begins.

There isn’t a lot between the teams and the warm up matches suggest just that. Looking back at previous meeting between the two teams the match ended in a 16-16 draw in the Rugby Championship in July.

With South Africa impressing in all their recent matches, we don’t see New Zealand showing huge signs of improvement (albeit they are already at the top level). Therefore, we’re strongly tipping up South Africa to win on handicap +8 points in this match up.

Tip:

South Africa to win on handicap + 8 points at 1.91 (10/11) with William Hill

Australia v Fiji

Saturday 21st September 2019

Australia are unfancied to challenge at the business end of the World Cup, but you can never write off the Wallabies. They face a tough first match against Fiji who could be a surprise package in this tournament with their flair and pacey wingers.

However, when looking at the market to place our selection, the winning margin is the one which catches our attention. Australia haven’t been prolific in try scoring in their recent matches, but we see their experience and know how in world cup matches to come up trumps.

Australia to win between 11-20 points is our top tip as there is plenty to like in this match up that Australia will come out on top and win well.

Tip:

Australia to win between 11-20 points in winning margin market at 3.75 (11/4) with Betfair

France v Argentina

Saturday 21st September 2019

This match has the makings of being a world cup classic as there is little between the two countries. Argentina have had a very tough warm up schedule to the world cup facing New Zealand, Australia and South Africa and although losing all three matches, they lost each of them by under 10 points.

France won’t pose as much of a threat as the top southern hemisphere teams so Argentina will really fancy their chances of opening their world cup campaign with a win. They are physical up front, durable and do have the skills to breakdown defences and score tries.

France had a poor six nations by their standards and have shown signs of the French flair in the build up to the world cup with wins over Scotland and Italy but Argentina are on a different level to both these teams.

Our tip in this eagerly anticipated match is Argentina to come out on top as their tough warm-up matches will make them ready for the opening match and the French are sometimes slow starters and if they aren’t at the races then Argentina’s power will be crucial.

Tip:

Argentina to win between 1-12 points on winning margin market at 3.25 (9/4) with Ladbrokes
