Shanghai Masters

September 9-15
Shanghai, China

Shaun Murphy v Lyu Haotian

Match Odds, Betting Tips and Predictions

Monday September 9th 02:30

Shaun Murphy 1.36 @ Bet365, Lyu Haotian 3.40 @ Betfred

Head to Head 0-1

Shaun Murphy heads to Shanghai in good heart having started the new season strongly reaching the final of the International Championship in Daqing, China. This was a much improved display after a terrible 2018-2019 season and a return to his previous coach Chris Henry appears to be the boost he needed. There have been visual changes to his technique taking his bridge hand closer to the cue ball to improve control. This should improve his already excellent break building in the coming months however, there appears to be an injury cloud over the Englishman after withdrawing from the Paul Hunter Classic a couple of weeks ago. There was a statement saying he had to withdraw due to “serious injury” but there have been no more details released to the public. It has been known previously in his career that Murphy has struggled from time to time with back and neck problems.

Lyu Haotian is a twenty-one-year old Chinese professional who stands at 26th in the current World Snooker rankings. Reaching the round of 16 in the 2017 World Snooker Championship, Haotian rose to prominence since reaching two ranking tournament semi-finals and the Indian Open final.

I think with the injury cloud over Shaun Murphy this may be a good time to oppose him with a reliable young Chinese opponent in his home country. We know that Haotian beat Murphy in the round of 16 at last season’s China Championship on the way to a semi-final appearance so can expect him to be comfortable playing the former World Champion. For a full stake bet I like the option of Haotian with +2.5 handicap given we know Murphy may make a tentative start due to his recent injury and that is also the reason for adding a half stake bet for Haotian to win frame 1. Add another a half stake bet on Lyu Haotian winning the match at a generous price.

Recommended Bets

Lyu Haotian +2.5 frames @ 1.83 (5/6) Betfred

Lyu Haotian to win frame 1 @ 2.25 (5/4) Paddy Power

Lyu Haotian @ 3.40 (12/5) Betfred

Stuart Bingham v Liang Wenbo

Match odds, Betting Tips and Predictions

Tuesday September 10th 02:30

Head to Head 5-4

2015 World Champion Stuart Bingham travels to Shanghai after a nice warm up at last week’s Six Reds World Championship reaching the Quarter Final stage. A player who rarely if ever misses a tournament on the World Snooker Tour, you can always expect a 100% professional performance. Many of his best performances have been overseas in his career while last season he won the English Open and Gibraltar Open while making the final of the Welsh Open.

Liang Wenbo was the inaugural English Open Champion in the 2016/2017 season. Since reaching the elite top 16 in the previous two season’s he has fallen on hard times with poor form leaving him with a current World Ranking of 34. He will be pleased of the invite to the Shanghai Masters and the opportunity to build his confidence.

These two players always produce competitive matches, but Stuart Bingham has won their last three encounters easily and I expect more of the same this week in Shanghai. Another bet I always like to take with the Essex man in matches over 9 frames or more is to score a century break at 1.66 or bigger.

Recommended Bets

Stuart Bingham -1.5 frames @ 1.80 (4/5) Paddy Power

Stuart Bingham over 0.5 centuries @ 1.66 (4/6) Bet365
