That final appearance along with winning his opening match at the World Championships in April are the only reason he hangs on to his top 16 ranking. In those final few months of the season he was re-united with his old coach Chris Henry and there were signs of a revival at the World Championships with a noticeable change in technique. He will need to start this new season by winning matches to regain the confidence back into his game.

Yuan Sijun impressed former World Champion Stephen Hendry so much in reaching the Quarter Final stage of the World Grand Prix that he described him as “The best talent he has seen in ages”. The Scotsman is not one to give praise lightly and was vindicated as the Chinese teenager reached the semi final of the Gibraltar Open just the month after. He did also beat two former world champions last season Mark Williams and John Higgins both in deciding frames.

Yuan Sijun won his opening match impressively against Ricky Walden last week in the season’s opening ranking event the Riga Masters and for that experience he will be the sharper player of the two player's. The other factor in our favour for a bet on the Chinese teenager is the fact he has proven a liking for the big occasion and beating the sports biggest names.

Recommended Bet:

Yuan Sijun to beat Shaun Murphy – 2.38 (11/8) Bet365

Stuart Bingham v Mark Joyce

Betting Odds:

Stuart Bingham – 1.30 (3/10) William Hill

Mark Joyce – 4.00 (3/1) Ladbrokes

2015 World Champion Stuart Bingham starts his 2019/2020 with a tough opening round match against Mark Joyce.

Stuart Bingham will be keen to start his season quickly and throughout his career plays well overseas. The Essex man prides himself on playing every event on World Snooker's schedule. Last season he won the English Open and Gibraltar Open while reaching the final of the Welsh Open to re-establish himself near the top of his sport.

Mark Joyce gives the impression of a man on a mission this season. He is on the comeback trail having taken his technique apart following an abysmal 2018/2019 season. There were encouraging sign’s in snookers off season as he won the Vienna Masters and in the process making a maximum break amongst a plethora of century breaks. The confidence is slowly but surely creeping back into his game with a very bright start to the season. Last week at the Riga Masters he reached the final beating Jack Lisowski in the process.

If Stuart Bingham is to win this match he will need to play to a high standard and without doubt Mark Joyce is very tough opposition buoyed from another good performance at last week’s Riga Masters. With the match being over best of 11 frames it should allow Stuart Bingham chance to get foothold against a match sharp opponent so we are taking the safer option of Mark Joyce to cover the spread.

Recommended Bets:

Mark Joyce +2.5 frames @ 2.00 (1/1) Ladbrokes
