Jack Lisowski v Ali Carter

Wednesday 24th April, 19:00

Head to Head 1-0

Betting Odds

Jack Lisowski - 5/6 (1.83) @William Hill

Ali Carter - 11/10 (2.10) @Boylesports

The last of the opening round matches is the closest matched and eagerly awaited as Jack Lisowski takes on Ali Carter.

Jack Lisowski has reached the elite top 16 for the first time this season with a string of consistent performances starting with the Riga Masters final in the season opening event and only last week he made the final in the China Open losing on both occasions to Neil Robertson. Last season he was a qualifier for the final stages at the Crucible Theatre and beat a previous champion Stuart Bingham at the opening match of the final stages eventually losing to John Higgins in the round of 16.

Ali Carter had to travel to the Institute of Sport in Sheffield for the qualifying rounds this year and won three matches easily beating Jimmy White in one of the rounds. Last season Ali Carter reached the quarter finals of the World Championship after beating the favourite Ronnie O'Sullivan in the round of 16. Twice a finalist of this great championship both times losing to Ronnie O'Sullivan he also has the distinction of a televised 147 maximum break at the Crucible Theatre.

Verdict

Their one head to head meeting ended in a close 6-5 victory for Jack Lisowski in the round of 64 in the 2015 International Championship. Looking at the statistics and break building it looked a high quality encounter and I think we can expect the same again and the line of over 50+ breaks in match with Paddy Power makes some appeal.

I do like Jack Lisowski chances of winning this match and making as big breakthrough in these next two weeks. Obviously not Ali Carter‘s fault but he had a very easy qualifying section and this will be a stern test in comparison.

Recommended Bets

Jack Lisowski to beat Ali Carter @5/6 (1.83) Paddy Power

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "

One frame is all it took for @Magician147.

He sets up a match with Neil Robertson in the last 16 #ilovesnooker @Betfred pic.twitter.com/ZdnwtbkbpC
— World Snooker (@WorldSnooker) April 22, 2019
\n\n"}[/]

Neil Robertson v Shaun Murphy

Thursday 25th April, 14:00

Head to Head 21-11

Betting Odds

Neil Robertson - 1/3 (1.30) @Paddy Power

Shaun Murphy - 9/4 (3.25) @Paddy Power

This second round match is between two previous world champion’s Neil Robertson and Shaun Murphy. Strange fact is both players lead in their opening round match 9-0 after their opening session and looks a shootout between two of the games most attacking players.

Neil Robertson has reached the round of 16 at the World Championship with a one sided opening round against Michael Georgeiu. Easy wins have become a feature recently for the Australian with his outstanding season gaining pace winning the last ranking tournament before the World Championship the China Open in impressive fashion with several whitewashes. He started the snooker year winning the Riga Masters, then a tournament win at the Welsh Open followed by back to back final appearances against Ronnie O'Sullivan in the Players Championship and Tour Championship finals. He has amassed eighty century breaks and one maximum in the current season and is the “man in form”.

Shaun Murphy came to this year’s World Championship in the worst form of his career but after back to back centuries in his opening two frames at his favourite venue it felt like normal service had been resumed quickly. In a dominant first session against teenage debutant he heaped the ultimate misery on his young opponent actually making four centuries and playing to the standard we expect from him.

Verdict

“One swallow does not a summer make” so Shaun Murphy’s ultimate test of form awaits in this match against Snooker's in form player Neil Robertson. With his favourable head to head record I expect the Australian to put the Englishman’s game under intolerable pressure over twenty-five frame match and cover the spread easily.

Recommended Bets

Neil Robertson -3.5 frames v Shaun Murphy @19/20 (1.95) Boylesports
