This week's test is significantly different with the course being shorter, flatter and only two par 5s. The course is set on the Bayside of the Pacific and the prevailing winds can make a huge difference to the players. On occasion, the daily stroke average has been raised by three strokes on the windy days and thus players experienced with those demands often excel. Other players who excel are those who can handle the Bermuda greens on tour.

Sunjae Im Looks Primed for a Second PGA Tour Title

Sunjae Im established himself at the top of the sport with an impressive bank of form twelve months ago that culminated in winning the Honda Classic just before the Covid-19 hiatus. After the break for the pandemic, he was slower out of the blocks than many others but finished the year strongly when he contended for the Masters title. The start of 2021 last week at the Sentry Tournament of Champions saw Sunjae Im have the perfect preparation for this week with a 5th place finish. Two solid starts at the Sony Open leave us under no illusion that Waialae Country Club is suited to the Korean and last year he was in contention before a below-average final round saw him slide down the leaderboard. He looks to have a strong each-way profile this week.

Sony Open Betting Pick: Sunjae Im – each-way at 23.00 with William Hill (visit our William Hill Review)

Matt Nesmith to Win a First PGA Tour Title After an Eye-Catching Rookie Season

After a 2019 promotion from the Korn Ferry Tour to the PGA Tour for Matt Nesmith, he did not disappoint in his rookie season with a string of consistent efforts. He made his Sony Open debut twelve months ago and finished 32nd which in hindsight was unsurprising. I say hindsight because the South Carolina resident has expressed a love affair with Hilton Head links on Harbour Island. I hear you thinking what has that got to do with this week in Hawaii? Put simply there has always been a correlation of results at both venues and thus later in the season, Nesmith showed up well for a second time in recent seasons at Hilton Head links. He finished 2020 in strong style illustrating what a model of consistency he had become over the year.

The logical next step is for the man from Aiken, South Carolina to contend for PGA Tour title's and we know he can win because in 2019 he won the Albertsson Boise Open on the Korn Ferry Tour. Throughout recent years there has been a trend of big priced winners on the PGA Tour at the Waialae Country Club and a couple of which have been first-time winners as Russell Henley and Cameron Smith last year illustrate. There have also been a few big priced Sony Open winners recently who were winning their second PGA Tour title like Fabien Gomez and Patton Kizzire. Matt Nesmith fits the profile of a shock winner this week in Hawaii.

PGA Tour Betting Pick: Matt Nesmith - each way at 81.00 with PaddyPower

Hudson Swafford to be Sharper this Week and Land a Top 20 finish at the Sony Open

It was good to see Hudson Swafford back to form with a bang with a win in the fall at the Corales Puntacana Resort and Club Championship. This meant he qualified for last week’s Sentry Tournament of Champions and that would have been a perfect warm-up for the Florida man for one of his favourite weeks of the year at the Sony Open. Third, in 2019 was his best effort at the Waialae Country Club amongst a plethora of strong efforts at the course to illustrate his affinity. Four top 20s including that effort in the last seven years and a strong stroke average make Swafford an easy selection for the top 20 market this week.

Sony Open Betting Pick: Hudson Swafford – Top 20 at 8.50 with Unibet
