What are the hot tips and best bets for the contest in the T20 tournament?

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots vs Jamaica Tallawahs

Tuesday 10 September 2019, Basseterre

Although this sounds like a run-of-the-mill Caribbean Premier League encounter, it is something of a curiosity. Jamaica’s greatest export behind Usain Bolt and rum, Chris Gayle goes up against his old team, the Patriots.

Gayle is famous the world over for the shellacking he can give a cricket ball. He is also becoming infamous for, increasingly it seems, looking about as energetic as a sloth after 40 winks when at the crease. His two from three recent performances in the one-day series against India were truly awful.

The fact Gayle will have a point to prove against his old team-mates might stir him into action. Gayle is best at 3.1 (21/10) with Betfair and Paddy Power. He is certain to be well backed so it would be dereliction of duty not to investigate that price further. Is it value?

On two-year form, the answer is yes. Gayle has a hit rate in this competition of 34.7 per cent, which translates as a 2.88 poke. The problem comes when we look at his career numbers. Down comes that percentage figure to 27.4. Or in our language, a 3.64 chance.

Although we advise that recent form is key, to be truthful we have to require both planets to come into line when Gayle is concerned. He is just too unpredictable these days to bet without the numbers stacking up in our favour. But if you do have the wager you can be sure it’s not the stinker it normally is when Gayle is involved in this market. Ordinarily he is way too short.

There is a spot of top-bat value elsewhere. Devon Thomas is big at 7.0 (6/1) with William Hill. They are rating him with implied probability of 14.3 per cent. Last year he won at a rate of 30 per cent. And he notched last time out for the Patriots so it is hardly unreasonable to have an interest.

Best Bet

Back Devon Thomas top St Kitts & Nevis Patriots bat 7.0 William Hill
