What are the hot tips and best bets for the contest in the T20 tournament?

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots vs Trinbago Knight Riders

Tuesday17 September 2019, Warner Park Stadium

The Patriots are third in the Caribbean Premier League standings after they beat St Lucia Zouks last time out. But is it a false position? With six games played no other team has been in action as often. And they have only won two of them. It could be they are the worst team in the tournament.

Certainly the prospect of playing Trinbago Knight Riders, the holders, does not fill with them glee as they desperately try to build momentum. Their only other win came when they conceded - and then chased - a tournament record score against the Jamaica Tallawahs.

What we are sure of is that they are a team who, with the bat at least, need a good start behind them to build confidence. If their fire starters don't get going, they could be in trouble. Against the Zouks Evin Lewis, who has been disappointing, managed it with 65 from 30 balls. Their front three of Devon Thomas, Lewis and Laurie Evans has quick runs in them. The less said about the middle order the better.

Trinbago have won all four of their matches and, arguably, are now stronger than before a ball was bowled. Colin Munro has returned from New Zealand international duty - and top scored in his first outing - while Lendl Simmons' good form has shown now sign of abating. Simmons was only supposed to play three games as cover for Munro but because Dwayne Bravo, the all-rounder, has been ruled out of the competition with a finger injury, he will stay the course.

Bravo's absence has not damaged Trinbago as much as those who love to take on skinny favourites would have liked. That's because Jimmy Neesham, Munro's compatriot, is having a storming season.

We're liable to get bogged down on finding a winner for top Trinbago bat. We like Munro but want 4.0 instead of the 3.5 that is available across the board. We like Kieron Pollard at 5.5 but recognise his historic stats are from teams who did not have such a powerful top order.

Thanks be to Ladbrokes and William Hill, then, who inexplicably price Thomas of St Kitts at 6.0 (5/1) for top bat in their innings. Thomas is opening the batting now and these two have not twigged.

Best Bet

Back Devon Thomas top St Kitts & Nevis Patriots top bat 6.0 Ladbrokes
