What are the hot tips and best bets for the contest in the T20 tournament?

St Lucia Zouks vs Barbados Tridents

Saturday 21 September 2019, Darren Sammy Stadium

There can be no doubt that T20 franchise cricket has revolutionised the sport and provided enormous amounts of entertainment. But, let’s face it, when dreams were had of such a format and leagues, no one was salivating at the prospect of the Zouks against the Tridents. These are two poor teams.

Still, we don’t need quality for a decent betting heat, do we? We only need reminding of the five-match Ashes series in England when both teams took turn to see who could produce the most inept play. A 2-2 draw was pretty fair in the end.

Not surprisingly, the bookies have struggled to split the two. The Tridents are marginal favourites at 1.91 (10/11) across the board while the Zouks get a 2.0 (even money) quote from Betfred and Unibet. Tridents seem to have got the jolly nod because they have lost twice from only three while the Zouks have lost three from four.

One piece of team news that might swing it for a wager on the outsiders is that Alex Hales, who, admittedly, has been disappointing, will not be available. He has flown back for Nottinghamshire’s tilt at Finals Day in the Vitality Blast at Edgbaston.

The Zouks have also suffered something of a player drain, though. Niroshan Dickwella and Thisara Perera have had their participation in the tournament thrown into doubt because Sri Lanka Cricket have refused to provide No Objection Certificates to allow them to turn out.

Colin Ingram, the former Trinbago Knight Riders hitter and Glamorgan captain, has flown out to bolster their line-up and is expected to go straight into the XI.

With reliability in such short supply, our best advice for a wager is to take Sandeep Lamichhane at 3.75 (11/4) with Bet365, Ladbrokes and William Hill for top Zouks wicket taker. Lamichhane has had a potent start and although he faces stiff competition from Jason Holder, his wily brand of spin and flight could be too much for a brittle Tridents line-up.

Best Bet

Sandeep Lamichhane top St Lucia Zouks bowler 3.76 William Hill
