Military Tribute at The Greenbrier

September 12-15
The Old White TPC at Greenbrier

Predictions and Betting Tips

The 2016 Military Tribute at Greenbrier was cancelled due to terrible floods but I still have eight years form back to 2010 to use when I narrow down the course specialists who I expect to play well this week.

The selection I like most this week is Canadian professional David Hearn who qualified in 13th position form the Korn Ferry Tour final standings. Perched precariously at number 42 in the rankings outside the top 25 approaching the last day of the Korn Ferry Tour Championship he produced a superb final round of 66 to catapult him to a final position of 13th. He turned professional in 2001 joining the PGA Tour in 2005, having a stop start career that has seen him twice lose play offs for PGA Tour titles in 2013 and 2015. His national championship, The Canadian Open he was the 54 hole leader in 2015 with a chance to become the first Canadian ever to win. Those performances tell us he is a capable player however, in recent seasons his form has suffered with his last top 10 finish at the 2017 Travellers Championship. He turned forty in June and the way he qualified for his playing privileges at the Korn Ferry Tour Championship will have buoyed his confidence. What is of particularly interest is his impressive course form at The Old White TPC where he has four top 20 finishes in six starts, giving me confidence he will play to his best this week. I like him in two markets, Top Rest of the World, and Top 40.

A player with a similar profile to Hearn is Cameron Tringale has two fourth place finishes at The Old White TPC and finished the 2018/2019 in consistent form. Six top 20 finishes in his last ten starts are only half the story because his tee to green stats suggest he could have done even better. Winless on the PGA Tour so far in his he will be keen to transfer that form into the new season at a venue he likes.

My idea of a banker this week for the place markets will be last year’s third place finish Jason Kokrak who has become a model of consistency on the PGA Tour. He made it all the way to the FedEx Tour Championship eventually finishing the season in an impressive ninth place after a remarkable four top 20 finishes in succession. Amazingly he has never won on the PGA Tour but he is a reliable player to support in the place markets.

Sweden’s David Lingmerth is a player who interests me and like David Hearn is coming slowly back to his best form. Winner of the 2015 Memorial Tournament when piping England's Justin Rose in a play off he has not kicked on since. Some of Lingmerth's best results have been on other TPC courses at Sawgrass (Players Championship) and the Stadium West Stadium in California. I did think he was close to breaking out of his slump in recent weeks with an eye catching 63 at the Barbasol Championship and a couple of improved displays since. The clinching ingredient for a bet this week is four top 20 finishes in his last five starts here.

Recommended Bets

David Hearn – (each way) Top Rest of the World @ 23.00 (22/1) Bet365

David Hearn – Top 40 @ 3.10 (21/10) Paddy Power

Cameron Tringale – Top 5 @ 19.00 (18/1) Unibet

Jason Kokrak – Top 20 @ 2.38 (11/8) Unibet

David Lingmerth – Top 20 @ 7.00 (6/1) Unibet
