The main protagonists in the top American market, Koepka, Johnson and Woods look opposable this week.

There are some value alternatives in each market and tips advised.

Top Englishman

Former Masters champion Danny Willett (23.00 Paddy Power) is slowly but surely emerging from a slump in form after winning at Augusta in 2016. He is having an erratic season that started by winning the DP World Tour Championship, since there have been several prominent displays on the PGA Tour with his best being at the Canadian Open. He has always been a fine exponent of links golf with solid Open Championship form in previous years.

Andrew “Beef” Johnston (45.00 Boylesports) grabbed a late qualification spot at last weeks Scottish Open with a flying finish of 62 in round 4. Always a crowd favourite he may be in the correct frame of mind to play the rush, given we know he has good previous Open Championship form.

Top Continental European

The player I really like for a sporting each way bet at small stakes in this market is Denmark's Thorbjorn Olesen (26.00 Boylesports) who last year made his Ryder Cup debut. He has become a consistent performer in recent years on the European Tour, has a mixture of course experience from the 2012 Irish Open with current and previous Open Championship form. The downside to a bet in this market is the top of this market appears strong with Henrik Stenson and Jon Rahm this week so we may only be playing for place money therefore I am prescribing the main bet being on the top 20 finish (5.00 Bet365) combined with smaller each way bet in this market.

Top American

As I mentioned in my outright preview I do believe the main protagonists Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka and Tiger Woods are opposable so this may be a good market for that purpose.

Brandt Snedeker (61.00 Boylesports) springs to mind, a player who has shown consistency in the British and US Open’s in recent years without threatening to win one. Well capable of a top 10 finish which will be enough for an each way pay out in this market. He is back with his old coach and played well on the Harry Colt designed Hamilton Golf and Country Club at the Canadian Open.

Veteran Jim Furyk (76.00 Bet365) has been a regular competitor in the Open Championship over many years. He is a Hamilton Golf and Country Club course specialist who has played superbly all season and I expect the strategic examination the course gives the players to be right up his street. Like Brandt Snedeker he may not need to win the event to win this market and makes a good each way wager.

Recommended Bets

Jim Furyk – each way @ 76.00 (75/1) Bet365

Top Rest of the World

South African Erik Van Rooyen (21.00 Boylesports) has become a consistent golfer either side of the Atlantic on both major tours in recent months who featured highly in last year’s Open Championship. In contention at last weeks Scottish Open, this market look perfect for the ultra consistent links specialist.

Canadian Adam Hadwin (41.00 Boylesports) appears under the radar in this market after a decent Open Championship last season when not in such good form. Placed at the Canadian Open recently and the 3M Open he could go well at a big price.

Recommended Bets

Adam Hadwin - each way @ 51.00 (50/1) Boylesports

Top 20

This time last year previous Open Champion Stewart Cink (17.00 Bet365) was in a rich vein of form contending most weeks. Last August in the PGA Championship he came 4th since however, his form has totally vanished since. Last week at the John Deere Classic there was a semblance of life from the veteran and he may be worth a small interest in Top 20 market.

American/Korean Chan Kim (17.00 Bet365) was a brilliant 11th in British Open Championship 2017 and suffered an injury through 2018 keeping him off the golf course. His rehabilitation has been slow but on the Japanese PGA Tour lately he has regained his old level of form. He is a nice small stake bet in many markets (Top American 226.00) this week but the Top 20 market will be the safest route.

Zander Lombard (15.00 Bet365) was runner up in the Amateur Championship at Royal Portrush in 2014. He is a inconsistent sort but a links golf course specialist who lead the Irish Open two weeks ago. Last year he featured prominently in the Open Championship and represents value in the Top 20 market.

Thorbjorn Olesen (5.00 Bet365) mentioned in Top Continental European section above, looks a rock solid selection for this market.

Recommended Bets

Chan Kim @ 17.00 (16/1) Bet365

Zander Lombard @ 15.00 (14/1) Bet365

Thorbjorn Olesen @ 5.00 (4/1) Bet365
