What are the hot tips and best bets for the final qualifier in the T20 tournament?

Trinbago Knight Riders vs Barbados Tridents

Friday 11 October 2019, Brian Lara Stadium

The Caribbean Premier League 2019 edition will, in all probability, be remembered as tournament low on quality and competitiveness. There is, it seems, one team (Guyana Amazaon Warriors) which is head and shoulders above the rest. It’s a lot like previous editions, then.

But if there is to be a rescue act of sorts from naysayers claiming the series is too predictable, then Barbados Tridents could be the team to say ‘sshhh’. The Tridents can eliminate the Trinbago Knight Riders, the holders and winners of three of the last four, in what is essentially a semi-final at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba. The Warriors await in the final.

The Tridents have been rejuvenated. And they have been rejuvenated by one man – Hayden Walsh. Walsh’s emergence has been anything but predictable. He has been a sensation and on his own he could drag his team to glory.

Walsh is a United States of America international. Nothing to write home about there, then. He is 27, so no thrusting ingenue. His record prior to his first game this season was average. No surprise, then, that Tridents were reluctant to pick him.

But when Walsh played his first match – against the Patriots in Basseterre – he claimed two wickets, one of them key. In his next match he took two more against the Tallawahs. And then, bang! He rolled Trinbago with a five-wicket haul. There was no stopping him. In seven matches, Walsh’s legbeak googlies have claimed 19 victims. He has taken a wicket every 8.7 balls. He’s also won top bowler three times.

Rightly, he is jolly for another win in that market. But Ladbrokes and Coral are taking a risk making 17.0 (16/1) for the man of the match. He’s easily worth an interest.
We’re also enamoured with the 4.5 (7/2) that Colin Munro top scores for Trinbago. He’s had a quieter tournament than we would have liked but, statistically, he should be shorter and Ladbrokes are way out of line with their rivals.

Best Bet

Back Colin Munro top Trinbago Knight Riders runscorer 4.5 Ladbrokes
