Turkish Airlines Open

November 7-10 at Montgomery Maxx Royal (Belek, Antalaya, Turkey)

The Turkish Airlines Open has been playing annually on the European Tour since 2013. The Montgomery Maxx Royal hosted the event from 2013 to 2015. The three seasons 2016, 2017 and 2018 the event moved to the Regnum Carlya Golf Club.

The Montgomery Maxx Royal is a Colin Montgomerie design with classical target golf the theme. With water in play on nearly 50% of the holes it is an easier than average test for the golfers with a score in excess of 20 under needed to win. Justin Rose has won the previous two years and will be trying for the hat trick while Frenchman, Victor Dubuisson is a two-time course champion at Montgomery Maxx Royal with Brooks Koepka the other course winner suggesting class players prevail.

Betting Predictions and Tips

Justin Rose attempts a hat trick of Turkish Airlines Open titles in succession this week in what has been a poor season by his extremely high standards. This time last year he had reached number one in the World Rankings and after winning the Farmers Insurance Open on his second start of 2019, better was expected from the Englishman. Still world number eight he has managed top 3 finishes at the US Open and Wells Fargo Championship. Last week in China at the WGC HSBC Champions was another solid if unspectacular week of 2019 but a return to one his favourite tournaments could be what he needs to end the year well. Those last two season's wins have been at the Regnum Carlya but a third place at Montgomery Maxx Royal in 2013 shows he handles the track.

Another Englishman, Danny Willett has eye catching form at Montgomery Maxx Royal. It is only just over a month since winning the European Tour's flagship tournament the BMW PGA Championship. A player slowly coming back to his best since a slump following the 2016 Masters win is worth respecting this week despite a poor week in China last time out. The Sheffield man has always been a player to forgive a bad week because he thrives and plays better when in contention.

Austrian, Bernd Wiesberger has it all to play for this week in Turkey. The long-time leader in the ‘Race to Dubai' after three tournament victories in 2019 in Denmark, Scotland and Italy has stiff competition from Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm for the title of Europe's best. Last week in China he was expected to play better on a course that suited and did actually get to five under par through ten holes on the opening day. Three late bogeys ruined his round and his week never recovered. With a top 10 finish at Montgomery Maxx in 2013 we know he can handle the test of target golf and has every incentive to pick up a fourth victory of the season.

American superstar, Patrick Reed is an interesting entrant this week in Antalya. He has to be one of golf’s hardest working professionals with a busy schedule that has seen him tee it up twenty-nine weeks of 2019. A regular supporter of the European Tour he has accumulated a phenomenal twenty-three top 40 finishes with a tournament victory at the Northern Trust the highlight. As the season draws to a close there is no one better equipped to deal with any mental fatigue than the 2018 Masters champion. Unusually he took a four week break before the Zoso Championship two weeks ago. He was impressive in the Zoso Championship and again last week in China, those efforts will have sharpened his game perfectly for this week.

England's, Eddie Pepperell has become the real deal in 2018 and 2019 on both European and PGA tour's. It is just over a year since his last victory at the British Masters and his last tournament 6th in the Portugal Masters hinted he would be winning again soon. A 10th place finish at Montgomery Maxx Royal in 2014 tells us he will handle the course and he has become a golfer to follow each-way at this week's price with nine top 6 finishes in his last thirty-seven tournaments including two wins.

Spaniard, Jorge Campillo is the player who interests me the most this week in Turkey. Winner of his first European Tour title back in April at the Trophee Hassan was an overdue success for the thirty-three-year-old from Càceres. Since the Irish Open he has struggled which was to be expected maybe after a blistering Spring on tour. Last week's effort was eye-catching and a confidence builder for this week at a course he looked comfortable on back in 2015.

David Lipsky had a brilliant first half of the European Tour season with winning the Alfred Dunhill Championship in South Africa the highlight. After a 5th place at the China Open in early May his form totally left him through the summer months. That made his performance at the Open De France noteworthy even though it was only 29th. With both his appearances at Montgomery Maxx Royal resulting in top 20 placings he looks a solid bet to go well this week.

Paul Waring making a top 10 finish last week in China was another good result in a superbly consistent year for the English professional from Birkenhead. Only two missed cuts in 2019 hint that Waring has jumped to a new level in the game. A winner at last year's Nordea Masters he had a good 25th at Montgomery Maxx Royal in 2013 and could put that initial course experience to good use this week.

Recommended Bets:

Danny Willett @ 36.00 (35/1) Unibet

Eddie Pepperell @ 46.00 (45/1) Betfair

Paul Waring @ 67.00 (66/1) Bet365

Jorge Campillo @ 151.00 (150/1) Paddy Power

David Lipsky @ 176.00 (175/1) Paddy Power
