Another event in the UK delivers yet again but this time round English fans were silenced; let’s take a closer look at this past weekend’s results.

Post-Fight Analysis / Recap

Jorge Masvidal vs. Darren Till

Using the word ‘Impressive’ would be an understatement to describe UFC’s event held at the 02 arena in London this past weekend.

Knockout’s, Submissions and fights to the death gave international UFC fans a bang for their buck and in the main event English MMA hero Darren Till fell victim to yet another devastating knockout loss at the hands of Jorge Masvidal.

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "

Fill in the blank:

Masvidal vs. _______ = title shot. #UFCLondon pic.twitter.com/TSJv9rwNJ2
— UFC (@ufc) 17 de março de 2019
\n"}[/]

I think Darren Tills downfall might have come within the first minute of the fight. He knocked down Masvidal the same way he has with majority of his other opponents in the past by unleashing that cracking left hand straight. I thought this might have given Till a false sense of security giving him that over confidence which ultimately lead to his demise in this fight.

He eat Masvidals early shots and once again, another false sense of security given to Till considering Masvidal was considerably smaller and can cut weight to the lightweight division all these factors I feel added to Darrens dismissal of Jorges technical striking and power to end the fight.

As I mentioned in last week’s main event article, Till is a fast starter and Masvidal takes his time in getting settled but this time round it seemed as if Tills quick start and early success against Masvidal forced him to get into a grove a lot sooner than previous fights. The speed and combinations that Masvidal was lacing Till with came from a lay and prey game plan. He waited for Till to attack and then boom… he would counter with 2-3 strikes every time.

Darren should of probably learnt a lesson early on in the fight but he still continued to battle on with a huge lack of defence and gave Masvidal little to zero respect in the power department which eventually cost him the fight.

Personally I had no money invested into this fight but I did see a huge number of people backing both Till and Masvidal alike. If you were brave enough to place a wager on Jorge you could have cashed a great price of 2.91 at Bookmaker.

Oh and I nearly forgot to mention… Jorge wasn’t done there. During his backstage interview he crossed paths with another Englishmen (Leon Edwards) who had just defeated Gunnar Nelson In a convincing decision victory. Leon couldn’t keep his mouth closed backstage which ended up in him catching a combination to the face from Masvidal which you can see here.

It seems like the UFC can barely last a couple of weeks without running into some drama, not like they care as much as they’d like to make out… it’s all promotion and no matter how much Dana White talks down these occurrences, we all know the best way to promote a fight is with animosity between the two fighters. Let’s see how sorry he is when the UFC will air the same footage in a build up to the fight (If the fight gets made).

Jorge Masvidal Def. Darren Till via KO (Round Two)

Nathaniel Wood vs. Jose Alberto Quinonez

Another English prospect for British fans like me to get excited about is Nathaniel Wood. He came through exactly how I expect and outclassed Jose Quinonez right into the second round where he ended the fight with some great wrestling and ju-jitsu leading him to sink in a rear naked choke.

There isn’t a whole much to elaborate on in this one, Nathaniel transitioned between his grappling and striking right until he ceased the opportunity and took the back of Quinonez like ‘a snake suffocating its prey’.

Anybody with UFC English legend Brad Pickett as their protégé is truly blessed to have such experience and expertise helping them through the early stages of a UFC career and no doubt with this win streak and hype Nathaniel won’t be too many fights away from a chance at title contention.

Nathaniel opened up at 1.38 with Bet365 so I made him one half of this weeks ‘Punching Parlay’ which cashed again now making it a four week win streak.

Full Results

Main card

Jorge Masvidal def.
