Another smallish LAN coming up this weekend – the annual CS Summit in Los Angeles!

The Summit Series of events are always very unique; both in terms of format and feel. For those unfamiliar with it, the organisers rent a big house in the LA area. All matches and broadcasts are held there with practice rooms, food, masseuse, and backyard entertainment. The casting talent is usually positioned on a couch with kitchen layout. The environment is very relaxed and is a throwback to the original LAN parties that were held in the early days of esports.

This year's tournament will be the first with only six teams competing instead of the usual eight. However the six in attendance are all of a decent calibre in their respective regions and no team is significantly better than any other. For instance, over the past six months Ence has beat tournament favourites, Liquid, Vitality has beat Ence, Renegades has beat Vitality, NRG has beat Renegades, and Liquid has beat NRG. So as you can see it can come down to map selection and who is slightly more on point. Ghost is the one team that should be singled out as a significant underdog. They have also taken maps off a few of the teams attending, however Ghost will need to have put quite a bit of work in since we saw them at ESL Pro League. The were one of the teams in Tours, France last week but unfortunately had to play with their coach and did not get very far. Instead of an upper/lower-bracket like previous years, the Summit 4 will have a round-robin with two best-of-ones group stage. You're probably thinking 'isn't two bo1's just a bo2'. Well you'd be correct except for the fact it means all seven maps are placed into the veto on both occasions so teams can potentially play the same map twice with alternating side selection. The top four teams will then qualify for the single-elimination playoffs featuring only best-of-threes instead of a best-of-five grandfinal.

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "

Six teams, four days, one week away. #cs_summit 4 is coming to you with these matches! Broadcast will begin everyday at 8:30AM PDT on https://t.co/qrKRbhnook pic.twitter.com/9F49gZQvZs
— BTS CS:GO (@BTScsgo) 16 de maio de 2019
\n"}[/]

Matches

Interestingly five of the teams attending this week (the exception being Ghost), will be competing in one week at the much bigger Dreamhack Masters Dallas tournament. Similarly to the teams, there are two ways we can approach Summit; either use this week's matches to gather some statistics and information about a particular team's map pool, chemistry and form. Or, alternatively, go head-first into this LAN and treat it as its own entity entirely, free of what is on the horizon. For this reason I was thinking of avoiding the outrights, however I decided to make one play. I am going to take Team Liquid to win the Summit and someone else next week in Dallas. Right now you can get Liquid at 2.5 here and at 3.0 to win a far more difficult 16-team competition at the Dreamhack Masters. If motivation is an issue for the NA all-stars then this ticket will be tossed in the bin rather quickly. However my hope is Liquid will cruise to a swift victory and drop the prices on everyone else next week. If they look poor in Los Angeles then their price should, in theory, lengthen ahead of Dallas. Could be a win/win or a lose/lose, but I would be more than happy with a split.

Outright Winner:
Liquid @ 2.5 [Unibet]
