The third annual IEM Sydney LAN begins April 30. Can Faze Clan defend their title with Niko now at the helm?

On the back of impressive spectator turnouts, the IEM portion of the CSGO circuit is once again playing host in Australia. This year's format is much like the 2018 tournament with 16 teams broken up into two groups featuring both an upper and lower bracket. The top team from each group will go straight through to the semifinals, while the teams who claim second and third will qualify for the quarterfinals.

Outrights
There will no Astralis, nor Natus Vincere in attendance this week. The finalists of the recent Blast Pro Series Miami, Faze and Liquid, are the two front-runners to win the Sydney title. There is value on both of them here it seems and I will be taking a shot with Liquid for redemption. Prior to the Miami conclusion I had Faze against the NA squad given the pricing alone. Fortunately Faze were gifted their two best maps, thanks to a poorly thought out ban process from Liquid, and they made the most of it. Now IF those are the two finalists once more I would be shocked to see TL make the same mistakes...if they do, we have a great hedge opportunity. Now while I do believe Faze Clan has improved greatly in the lead-up to this one, they should not be granted the same respect as Team Liquid simply because of one LAN victory. Additionally I don't see the value in taking either 'to reach the final'. The times in which Liquid and Faze are not playing up to their standard will not cover that particular market where they might go out at any stage along the way against a talented field. Take either for the title or look elsewhere.

To Win Outright = Liquid @ 4.0 [Betway]

The biggest long-shot that holds a legitimate chance to make the final is Renegades. Last year we saw a previous iteration of the org take down Faze and nearly Mousesports in the quarterfinals. Given the Aussies' performances at both the Katowice Major and StarSeries S7, expectations will be high for 'the boys' to make a run! This roster has shown some cohesion and superb teamwork under Kassad. Now whether that pressure will help or hinder them is difficult to determine, but I know they will want a victory here more than any other top 10 team and we've seen the crowd do wonders before. I hold the Renegades as being very close in price to all of the favourites in Group B; Faze, Mibr, Fnatic and NRG. Given the way the playoff brackets will break down it is highly likely RNG will face one or two en-route.

To Reach Final = Renegades @ 5.0 [Bet365]

Props:

Least Played = Nuke @ 3.0 [Bet365]

Most Played = Mirage @ 3.4 [Bet365]

Total Overtime Maps = over 3.5 @ 1.57 [Bet365] 2u

The other maps that deserve serious consideration for least played are Cache, given its 'soon to be benched' status, and Overpass given the price. The problem with taking Cache is that 9-11 of the teams will rarely ban it in the first phase of the veto so I think we

see it a little more frequently at this lan than some others. I will post my opening match wagers on Monday afternoon on Twitter and throughout the rest of the tournament. I don't play a lot of player props but both Pinnacle and Bet365 are offering many for Sydney. If you want help deciding which ones to go with, let me know.
