Klaasen has caused a few shocks in the past at this tournament and is comfortable on the big stage.

Klaasen is a former winner of the BDO world championships, then switched codes to the PDC. His best performance was semi-finalist in 2016 and although hasn’t lived up to his potential, he can comfortably win this opening match.

Burness is a veteran on the circuit and hasn’t troubled the big players of late and will need to be at his best to compete in this one

Top Tip: 2.0 (Evs) Jelle Klaasen (-1.5 legs) on handicap to beat Kevin Burness with Coral

Kim Huybrechts v Geert Nentjes

13th December 2019

Kim Huybrechts is a big favourite here and like Klaasen has had success on the biggest stage before. He got to the quarter-final in 2012 and over the past couple of years his form hasn’t been as good. However, on his day Huybrechts can cause the big players problems.

High scoring matched with a high checkout % can deliver the man from Belgium a comfortable passage into the 2nd round of the world darts championship. When he gets going Huybrechts has shown his concentration is spot on and the darts flow freely and he plays with confidence.

Nentjes is a rank outsider and the size of beating Huybrechts will be too much. Expectation is for Huybrechts to win and move into the 2nd with ease.

Top Tip: 2.0 (Evens) Kim Huybrechts (-1.5 legs) to beat Geer Nentjes with William Hill

Luke Humphries v Devon Petersen

13th December 2019

Luke is one of the new kids on the block in darts and has a great future. He reached the quarter final last year and is comfortable on the big stage. Like some players, consistency is an issue, but Humphries made his name recently by winning the world youth championship and has the potential to go a long way in this tournament.

Our top pick for the opening night is for Luke Humphries (-1.5legs) to beat Devon Petersen given his recent top form and can start with confidence and thrive on the big stage with a passionate crowd at Alexandra Palace.

Top Tip: 2.4 (7/5) Luke Humphries (-1.5legs) to beat Devon Petersen with Betfred
