Aspinall and van Gerwen to power their way to the semi-final

World Darts Championships – Quarter Finals

Nathan Aspinall v Dimitri van den Burgh

29th December

This quarter final match has the makings of classic. Two up and coming darts players who want to challenge van Gerwen at the top of the world fight it out for a place in this year’s semi-final. Nathan Aspinall beat Gary Anderson 4-2 in the 4th round with an average of 97 and hit 11 x 180s on his way to victory. He is slight favourite to qualify for the semi-finals and I believe he can do it.

Dimitri van den Burgh came through a tough 4th round match and 2 sets down to Adrian Lewis to win 4-3 in the end. If he turns up in the quarter final like he did against Lewis then Aspinall could cruise to victory.

The overriding through is this could be very close, but Aspinall is fancied to just get over the line.

Top Tip: Nathan Aspinall to beat Dimitri van den Burgh at 1.62 (8/13) with Bet365

Michael van Gerwen v Darius Labanauskas

Michael van Gerwen was superb in his 4th round match and is destined to reach the final and have a shot at retaining his title. Labanauskas won his 4th round match as we tipped up correctly, but this is a huge step up and the consistent high scoring of van Gerwen will be too much.

However this match is now the first to 5 sets and our tip in this match is van Gerwen to win 5-1 in sets. Over the long forward Labanauskas can win 1 set, but van Gerwen will take the rest and win this comfortably.

The world number one had an average of 104 in his fourth round match compared to 94 of Labanauskas and this is the key reason for the tip of such a big win for van Gerwen.

Top Tip: Michael van Gerwen to win 5-1 in sets at 3.5 (5/2) with SkyBet

Luke Humphries v Peter Wright

29th December

Luke Humphries put in a superb 4th round performance against Kim Huybrechts winning 4-1 in sets and in the process with 10 x 180s powered his way to a comfortable victory. He now faces Peter Wright for a place in the semi-final.

This should be a very close match going by the averages of both places. Humphries average was 95 in his 4th round match and Wright averaged 96 in his 4th round match against De Zwaan.

Our top tip for this match is Humphries +1.5 sets as believe this match will be very close and could go down to the wire. Therefore with the handicap in his favour Humphries can deliver.

Wright hasn’t hit the top form of a few years ago and there aren’t signs he can deliver an average of 100+ so Humphries could well come out on top.

Looking at 180s in the match, we’re tipping up over 17.5 based on this match being the first to 5 sets and with Humphries hitting 10 x 180s in his 4th round match and Wright throwing 12x 180’s. The over 17.5 legs should deliver.

Top Tips

Luke Humphries (+1.5sets) to beat Peter Wright at 2.1 (11/10) with Betfred

Over 17.5 180s in the match at 1.91 (10/11) with William Hill
