In-form Rob Cross and Peter Wright to progress to the quarter finals

World Matchplay darts 2019

Saturday 20th – Sunday 28th July – Winter Gardens, Blackpool

Our pre-tournament outright tips of Rob Cross and Peter Wright are both trading at a lot shorter odds now Michael van Gerwen suffered a shock defeat last night.

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "

The morning after the night before...

Here’s how @Duzza180 completed a breath-taking win over MVG 👏🏻 #WorldMatchplay pic.twitter.com/4vponruF50
— Live Darts (@livedarts) July 24, 2019
"}[/]

Even better for both players is that they performed very well in their pressure first round matches when the seeded players come up against lesser ranked players who are keen to knock them out the tournament.

We preview both their second round matches and have a tip for both matches.

Rob Cross versus Krzysztof Ratajski – World Matchplay darts, 2nd round Wed 24 July

Rob Cross faces Krzysztof Ratajski and will be spurred on by Michael van Gerwen’s defeat last night. At odds of 1.29 (2/7) to win with Ladbrokes, we will look to combine this with another match market to find a winner at odds against.

Rob Cross to win the match, throw the most 180’s and have the highest check out is 2.38 (11/8) with Ladbrokes is worth a play here given the form that Cross is in and his high scoring can given him the edge in this match. Cross hit an average of 100.60 in his first rounf match with 5 180s thrown so comes into this match with good confidence. His opponent won his first round match with a low average of 89.23 so on that level alone shouldn’t cause that may problems for Cross.

Tip:

Rob Cross versus Krzysztof Ratajski

Rob Cross to win the match, throw the most 180’s and have the highest check out is 2.38 (11/8) with Ladbrokes

Peter Wright versus Simon Whitlock - World Matchplay darts, 2nd round Wed 24 July

Peter Wright is on the crest of a wave right now and playing at the best level of his career. With a 3 dart average of 102.4 in his first round match and a highest check out of 164, Wright is playing with a huge amount of confident. Hitting 6 180s as well shows his concentration is on the money as well.

Being a previous runner up in this competition will also encourage Wright to go one step further in this competition now Michael van Gerwen has departed.

Simon Whitlock is an experience player, who beat John Henderson 10-8 in the first round. His average was 94.9 so well below the standard of what is needed to compete in the later stages of the World Match play.

Peter Wright is 1.29 (2/7) to beat Simon Whitlock with SkyBet and like Rob Cross, this price isn’t one we can tip up as a bet.

Instead, we will follow the route of Peter Wright winning the match, having the highest check out and most 180s and this gives us a price of 3.4 (12/5) with tournament sponsors Betfred

Tip:

Peter Wright versus Simon Whitlock

Peter Wright to win, have the highest checkout and most 180s in the match 3.4 (12/5) with Betfred

Wednesday World Matchplay darts Acca

As well as Rob Cross and Peter Wright to come through in their 2nd round matches, we strongly fancy Ian White to get the better of Stephen Bunting.

Like Peter Wright, Ian White is playing at a very high level and very confident with his darts. He is well liked in the dressing room and deserves to challenge for the top honours in the biggest tournament.

In the first round he was impressive with a 10-0 win over Joe Cullen and will want to take that form and good check out % into the match tonight against Stephen Bunting.

Tip:

Ian White, Rob Cross & Peter Wright all to win their 2nd round World Matchplay of darts matches 2.4 (7/5) with William Hill
